I have an AU V8 dual fuel, I am going to put a set of performance extractors on it and I want to put a larger throttle body on it, 90mm. it is going to be straight gas injected eventually/ does anyone know anything about 90mm universal throttle bodies and what is involved in doing this?

Massively too big.
It will have no throttle response and wont fit the standard manifold. Then you have to try and fit the TPS etc too it. A 90mm throttle body on a 5.0 will be like putting a 850 double pumper on a 302.

Its not that it wont have throttle response. It will be far too touchy and will prove annoying when puttering around at light throttle openings and there will be no difference from 1/4 throttle to full throttle.
On a 5.0 the limiting factor is the heads and intake. Like Matt said. A 90mm on a stock 5.0 is like a 850DP on a 2bbl manifold. Also there is no provision for an ISC on that throttle body. Its more of a headache than what its worth. |

One option for you could be to use a Gas research carb in place of your factory throttle body and bung a tps on the side. hans hartman has his EF XR8 set up in that exact configuration.

I've seen this done in 6cyl & v8 setups in the fords. I have also seen people with dyno results to show it was robbing 10rwkw of power when the car was on petrol. However, no other details were known, ie, what size gas TB was it, or other details that can factor in to the performance equation. Gas Research Tb's come in a number of sizes. They have been used in hi-po LPG setups for years with good results. Going Gas Research would be better than spending up on a larger TB & having a "normal" gas mixer ring or even an impco mixer infront of it. However, you may need to change your converter to suit. I'd take a 10rwkW difference between lpg and petrol than stick with a stock style mixer ring and lose up to 30 fwkW on both lpg and petrol due to the massive restriction of the mixer.

I'd go no bigger than a 70mm throttle body depending on mods. My EB, with an AU 5L, T3 cam, Pacemakers and a 3" Exhaust has a 65mm throttle body and 73mm MAF. A mate has an EF XR8 with an AU 220KW engine, big billet cam, Edelbrock Performer manifold and a C4 with a 4500rpm converter only has a 65mm Throttle body.

Tbh when i had the 70mm throttle body on the eb i didnt notice any difference in power or throttle response.
Id get the 65mm and be done UNLESS your looking into strokers and such. |

thanks for your replies, I'm pretty sure non xr8 models have a 65mm tb and xr8's use an 80 or 85mm tb, and non xr8 have smaller restricted exh man, that's the only difference I have been able to find. one being 175kw and xr8's 200=220w, so I thought 90mm with gas would be alright, until I do the full conversion. gas research sounds like the way to go.

AUI XR8 = 185Kw AUII XR8 = 200Kw AUIII XR8 = 220Kw Stock AU V8 = 175Kw. |

Nah mate not at all. 70mm Throttle body was on the 220 motors only. It is the throttle body with the Tickford Wings engraved on it. The rest of them are 65mm The 200 and 220 motors were the only motors to to get the different exhaust manifold setup. A standard XR8 that wasn't optioned with the more powerful motor just got the finger in bum manifolds.

i dont get the point in a massive TB, it does not make the internals of the heads and plenum any bigger.
