My water pump is shagged and my timing cover has seen better days. The most cost effective method of replacement I have found is the Ford Racing M-8501-A50 kit.
Now what I want to know is will the water pump work with the E series engine? It looks identical apart from obviously the pulley mount is different. I have the 94/95 'Stang under drive pulleys, waterpump has been bored out to suit the Falcon water pump, am I able to use this pulley still or does the centre hole have to be a snug fit around the pulley mount? So three options: 1) Buy kit, sell Mustang water pump, buy Falcon water pump. 2) Buy kit, sell old under drive pulleys, buy new pulleys 3) Buy kit, use current pulley http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-8501-A50/ |

Yes the pump will work. It's only the hub that's different. Ideally you would use the SN95 pulley...it's supposed to be hubcentric.
You could ask if they'll switch the water pump for a '92 T-bird/Cougar water pump? Or you could make an adapter ring to allow your modded pulley to be re-used. I've found pumps locally for $79 and a source for timing covers in the U.S. for $49 so I've gone that way but, it would be nice to stick with genuine pumps and covers. The quality of these ones I'm using is very good though. |

That's what I was thinking.
I've seen other branded covers/pumps as you suggested cheaper, but I would rather stick to genuine Ford. Falcon pumps (GMB brand) are $130 here, hence why I thought it cheaper just to get the kit. The price I can sell my current pulleys for in NZ would cover the cost of a new set of pulleys so that's no biggie. I had asked Tom from AMP Performance if he could swap out the pump or even just sell the cover alone, but he said they are sold as a kit so he's not really wanting to do that, which is fair enough. Plus Summit's freight for the kit is cheaper than any other outfit. Is the '92 T-bird/Cougar pump the same "shorty" style as this kit/original Falcon pump? |

Or just run an unmodified 94-95 Underdrive kit with it. Crank and w/pump will fit, but alternator pulley needs modifying.

Sell my current under drives and buy new ones. The ones I get from blue oval industries fit straight onto my alternator. Ive bought two sets and neither needed the alt pulley modded. |

Any reason your blue oval industries waterpump pulley doesnt suit the 94-95 w/pump..?

It does, but it's been drilled out to suit the Falcon W/P. I was asking If the pulley had to be hub-centric, as In could I use my current drilled out pulley on the mustang W/P, or If I have to buy a new pulley (un-modified) to suit the smaller diameter 'Stang pump.
If I used my current pulley obviously the bolts will bolt up because it's still got the mustang bolt holes, but the center hole won't be a snug fit around the Mustang water pump centre. |

No go on the bolts, most of them are the wrong length. No one seems to make a kit for the later windsors.
Go and buy your own - in stainless. Sizes you'll need 4x 3.25" 1x 4" (which is actually a 5"stud with a fixed nut an inch from the end - the stud part isnt used and a 4" bolt is sufficient) 3x 2" 2x 2.25" 2x 1.25" 1x 4.25" You will have to cut down ones to suit the quarter inch size (they didnt come in that size from where I bought them)

Hello All,
Been a long time....but I've had to make a comback (my car has the same problems). Been looking for a gen replacement pump, but have been reading that the (US Sourced) 94-95 Mustang pump has a slightly different bolt spacing in the hub (and different shaft thinkness possibly?). From one of the posts made above, am I to take it that the water pump hub for the 92 T-bird/Cougar has identical bolt spacings to those on the E-Series pumps? Are these hubs identical to those on the E-series pumps in every way? Will.

hi there,so if the 94-95 water pump and underdrive kit are bolted up to the crank/pump will it change the alt speed or change the throw out of the belt ,ie the in and out of the pullys ?

A smaller crank pulley will underdrive all of the other pulleys.
