I want to do a little work to my LTD's engine and just want to hear any tips or things that I haven't realised will need to be changed. I'm not looking to make an all out performance machine, just a tidy cruiser.

I was planning extractors and exhaust suited for mid range power, air intake, ecu upgrade and a mild cam. Don't want this build to get out of hand but is there anything else I will have to change as well?? Also any suggestions on where to look to go for parts in the melbourne/vic area would be appreciated.

Inlet manifold, throttle body/egr spacer and Mass Air Flow sensor from an AU, commonly referred to as an Explorer manifold. There are 3 on Ebay at the moment.

Requires a few little changes but its a common upgrade as the standard inlet manifold is rubbish.

Maybe some underdrive pullies too. These will all compliment the mods you suggested.

After all that alloy heads would be next.

Have a look at the sticky at the top of the page called "Some basic mods & cost info for upgrading your V8".
You won't need to change the cam or state of tune of the EEC at this stage.

The Tickford ones fitted to the xr's are fine, way bigger than the standard ones and a match for the expensive ones like the ss inductions versions.

I have a 96 LTD with the 165kw motor.

I have following mods. Try y extractors, 2.5 inch twin 200 cell cats, 2.5 inch exhaust, larger snorkel air intake, bottom of airbox hole mod and 3.45 diff gears. so now its probably 185kw and tighter gearing

Cars feels very responsive, plenty of straight line poke. I reckon it would give a stock LS1 a run for its money. the diff gears make it feel pretty urgent and very responsive on the throttle
