hi all, have recently removed battery from car to change headlight globes. Put battery back in. away we go, now notice that under heavy acceleration once rpm reaches about 3-3500. engine seems to choke/stall for about 1 or 2 seconds. revs wont rise but speed will? after that second or two, engine reaches bout 4000rpm it then launches like it just hit boost? have it booked in for engine diagnostic next week.
Car is standard except modified exhaust. (i.e the back piece taken of) any help would be greatly appreciated |

Maybe you have a dodgy ground connection that you disturbed when disconnecting the battery? Check your battery grounds from engine block to negative and body to negative post. Make sure you've got no broken or nearly broken wires.

cheers for the reply, double checked everything again, battery out again the other day. I could not find any loose connections etc. still running fine\idle fine till you give it some herbs.
Now, today/tonight after car sitting for 12 hrs. Battery is dead? think i may have problems elsewhere? |

It could be that you had a dead/dying cell in the battery all along?
Is it an ordinary battery or a sealed maintenance free job? If it's an ordinary one, get someone to try starting the engine with the caps off the cells and if you see bubbles in a cell you know it's buggered. Otherwise yes, you may have a power drain somewhere else. |

cheers again for the reply, sorry for the slow response. battery is a sealed cell job.
battery been fine again since, may have just left door ajar or something? The b**ch(car). Went to the doctor today, new leads, new plugs, fuel filter, air filter, computer plugged and diagnosed. pretty much a good service except an oil change. massive improvement within the running of the car, but problem still persists. mechanic said to me today, ignition leads are arcing out between each other. also have wrong spark plugs in it, something about cold and hot? so yer just under 500 later ?? all was replaced. when it went to the mechanics today, my climate as always is very wet! I dont think he took it out for a proper test to pick up the problem. which is fair enough. so will be taking it back tomorrow. |

yes battery lol, lesson learnt. :\
considering it had been to mechanics. ECU diagnosed and tuned, new plugs, new leads and fuel filter. would of thought mechanic would of picked up battery issue from start??? car would start and run as normal, but didnt like hard acceleration? so i never would of thought battery was the problem?? Is good to be able to look in the rear vision mirror and see 2 big fat licorise strips being laid again lol. |

new update with the lane.
Been going good for last few months, had sprung a pin hole leak with coolant at the back of the water pump. Tolerated that for the last 2 weeks.(putting water in everyday). would not hold pressure. but would not overheat. ordered a new water pump etc. organized to have fixed. Today the mechanic pulled water pump of, then found timing case corrosion.. the timing case was shown to me and held up to the light, the amount of small holes in it was not funny. so up for a new timing case. hmmmmmmmmm car still at mechanics, bill is standing @ 1700 already. that is including 2 new front disc rotors, rear 2 machined and all new pads. gets better, mechanic gave me a courtesy car, parked in driveway, old man reversed into it didnt he!! its a beautiful day today isnt it? lol |
