hi all,
im slowly planing a stroker build and im after some input on head size. what size heads would suit a 363 cube windsor that revs to around the 6500 rpm mark? will be a street/strip car so i want to keep the power where i can use it. AFR say the 205cc heads suit 351 cubes and up but have a working range of 3000-8000rpm witch is a bit high for what i want but then they said i could run the comp ratio as high as i can on 98ron fuel and this would help to compensate a bit. i just dont want to end up buying heads that are a bit too big and be disappointed in the end result so any help i could get would be great. thanks

If it was my engine id go 205cc but 185cc has proven to make 500hp flywheel

I'd go the 205's. I have 225's for my 427.

The intake flow figures for the 185's show they should make around 570HP gross. I would go with those. They will match your 6500rpm limit nicely, unless you use a power-adder. Running bigger heads than your motor needs will give you a loss of low down torque, but no boost to top end HP.

I'll try and get dyno graph's for 363 builds which are basically the same but 1 has 185cc & other has 205cc and compare the difference.
What is the rest of ur drive train setup as this will affect it??? Say my previous EF XR8 347 stroker i had a C4 with 4000rpm converter with 3.73 diff gears with 19's so with thst setup id go 205cc for sure

If itsa street car and you only want to turn it 6500rpm, then AFR185's are the go. A mate has just done this build (363ci, Dart block, AFR185's, Hyd Roller, 6500rpm) and itmade 500.1hp @ the flywheel running a carb inlet to run it in. This thing is going to be a torque MONSTER and a absolute weapon on the street, no doubt.

You say street/strip but be honest about how often it will meet the strip.. 185s are proven and you can port them if you like. Check out the yanks at corral.

The 363ci with 205cc i know of made 550hp so not a huge difference but also have to compare torque but is there anything in between 185cc and 205cc that other manufactuer??? Maybe trickflow, Brodix or Edelbrock???

you'd just port the 185s if you wanted more.
looking on summit, AFR are doing a 'competition ported' 185 out of the box now, if you spent some time going over where the CNC missed they'd probably be a pretty gun head. also i find hardcore50.com bit better then corral for information, have a dig around there. keep in mind there are alot of pretty serious combos, designed for drag racing in a lighter car. also yanks have a different definition for streetable i think

thanks to everyone for the replies, very much appreciated
well it looks like im going to use the 185cc competition heads. from what i have read the extra porting is of very good quality and the exhaust ports are raised slightly giving an average increase of about 10cfm across .200 - .600 valve lift range which is the area im aiming for and without loosing bottom end performance. i still have a few more questions if anyone can help out 1, should i be using the non emissions legal heads (no EGR) or the street ones? 2, what sort of compression ratio can i get away with on 98ron fuel? thanks heaps guys.
