I've just put an AU 70mm maf on my ED and will soon put an AU 65mm T/B on and I'm curious if there is a way to check my AFRs without having to pay for a dyno run? Or do I really need to check anyway? Only other mods are pod, cold air & 3" cat back. Any help greatly appreciated.

I wouldnt think your afr's would change at all without adding boost or changing things significantly.
You did your research into the maf's before you carried out the work? The only way i know of how to check if the engine is running too lean or too rich is by checking the sparl plug, goto www.autospeed.com(.au) ? and do a search for spark plugs, alot of people would benefit from ALOT of the articles on that site

you could by a wide band afr gauge and look that way
being a 8 you will need 2 gauges and 2 wide band hegos

You can get away with one, running off just one bank though.
When my mechanic tunes his cars, he goes solely off his plugs and he was running an 11sec methanol injected 308 VP commy

Very true. I don't think I'd rely on too many people, or myself, to tune off the plugs. I show him plugs and he gives me a run-down of how the car's been running. I look at the plugs and they just look like plugs...

If you still have the 19's in it it should run pretty good. Generally the extra unmetered airflow leans the WOT fueling out just enough to make more power. It'll probably hang somewhere in the high 12's to low 13's at WOT from 3000rpm-up.
The best way to check your WOT fueling is with a wide band HEGO sensor as Franks says but, as you are only after an indication of WOT fueling you can unscrew just one of your narrow band HEGO's and use the WB in that header. I use an Inovate motorsports LM1. It costs around $350 with a sensor and can actually log some other signals if you need it to. Remember to clear your KAM after running minus one HEGO. |
