g'day cobbers

just wondering what the current rating on alternators for different models are. my nc dosn't seem to handle both the thermo's with the lights on. are the later models much bigger and do they bolt straight in.

not sure mate
but your regulator might be dieng and not supplying enough power to the car's electrical system.

as for a new alt scott said can u rebuild them with AU internals in the stock housing

Well I've got an NF V8 the alternator in that is rated at 110A, don't know the specs on NC but the stock alt should be able to handle everything as Disco Frank said, it sounds like the alt has dropped its guts. If the bearings sound good then try changing out the reg, otherwise I'd go for a reco unit from an Auto Elec. :D

Hi Dale. I know that on the V8, the earlier E or "N" series alternators had different regulator interfaces - that is the plug is different and there's a third wire in the loom that plugs into another part on the regulator board. If you want a later model 100/110A alternator I have one in my garage that you could play with (I haven’t actually done a transplant into a housing like your current one) but I suspect you'll need to change your plug at least. I haven't looked at wiring diagrams from the earlier models, but it can't be that hard, there's not much to it.
