Has anyone had the problem of alt belts snapping cords after about 3 big power runs.
Everything is the same as it was, alignment is perfect, and on the old cam/heads/manifold it never had a problem. The old engine only went to 6500, and made less power. Now, every time I try to buz it past 7000rpm, I snap the cord in the side of the belt, and then throw the belt. Suggestions? |

what type of belt is it?
11A0950 or something like that? made by DAYCO or Gates? i know gates and i'm sure dayco would make something similar to it, called a FLEETRUNNER which is more suited to h/d appacations like trucks/buses, it has a better cord compound not made of glass. |

Its an 11a1005. If I get 4 minutes out of them I am doing well

Could you get a photo of the dead belt? nice and close up?.
If not are the side walls "glazed/ shiny"? or is their any wear on the side walls at all? By the sounds of it, it sounds like a "tensile break" which is normal caused by foreign object in the pulley or a tensile break may occur and go unnoticed when the belt is forced/pried on during installation, but since it's happening lots you'd notice something sitting in the pulley. Yes as Hartman said is the belt sitting deep in the pulley or just sitting flush/proud of the pulley? |

Pullies are perfect, and no wear in them, and also belt shows no wear at all, no glazing, nothing. Dont get time to. Belt is running on cheeks of pulley, as should be, the fact that the alternator blades are bending suggests to me that now I am spinning the alt too fast, as engine speed is 7400rpm, and the alt is struggling to keep up.
Need to find some slower pullies..... |

Need to find some slower pullies.....
