Hey guys, having a few issues with my 03 xr8... Yesterday on the way home the battery light came on and after a few mins driving the car died... Got it jumped and got it home but only just... Threw multi meter on it with a new battery and noticed it was only at 11.5v while the car was running... It should be at 14.4v yeah?
The problem is I only had the alternator replaced about 9 months ago it shouldn't be dead yet... Is there a hidden fuse anywhere for the alternator? Any help would be greatly appreciated as ATM I have no car

Get rid of the Motorcrap alternator and get yourself a Mitsubishi one out of a EF-EL V8. Lots cheaper and last longer than the new Fraud one...needs a re-wire but wont cost you more than $60-100. You will need the alternator of course.

Yeah chickenman! The pulley has a sprag in it, or one way bearing. So if it fails the pulley turns without the guts turning. Never seen one fail though...underdirves probably lessen the chance of it occurring too.

The motorcrap ones were phased out when the EF's came online(I think??? - please correct me if I am wrong there...)) and because they are horribly expensive(alt costs $1086!!!!! alone according to THE dealer here in the ACT) but, get this. They are a sealed unit therefore you cant repair them(whole old out and new in - Fraud will not repair them at all...); however, Fraud will gladly sell you the brush pack and plug for $499, even though you cant repair it!!! Well...welcome to the ACT and try Tuggeranong Electrical(right next to the Woolies servo in Tuggers). The team there do great work and reasonably priced. Hooroo |
