try looking at the rear of the motor on the left side just behind the last sparkplug use a bright light and you may have to remove the last lead to see it

U.S vehicles don't generally have engine numbers.
Are you trying to accertain if it's the original engine?
That's trouble with M-code stangs, they could be either 351W or 351C.
Look at the engineering number on the block. It should be a C9.. . If it's D0.. or later it's got a later engine in there.
What's the VIN say behind the windscreen?

Try on the block at the rear of the valley cover

Another spot to look at is on the machine spot face on the lower lefthand crankcase. The number might only have about 5 digits.

If the engine came with the car from the US then it will be as XR9UTE has already said.

US engines don't have engine numbers stamped like ours are.

The engine numbers are stamped in the same place as the V6 engines in the Explorers, the left hand rear lower crankcase.
