I would suggest turboing the 4L.Much better performance and alot less work.

Agree, but if you really like the V8 for it's sound, can't go past a lumpy cam and a 347 stroker kit!!

My suggestion would be buy this
ford-parts-for-sale-f17/fs-ed-fairmont-ghia-5-0-brisbane-south-1000-t86583.html

And then transfer everything you need over

your best off like brett said, buying an entire V8 EB/ED falcon so you have ALL the parts needed (it will be cheaper once you flog off the leftover parts, possibly even free) - if you buy everything piece by piece / from the wreckers it will cost a fortune

Unless your ED has sentimental value or is incredibly neat with unbelivably low k's I would just buy an XR8 or 5.o fairmont

People ask this question all the time. If you have a V8 conversion already sitting there then do it but if you have to buy another car etc etc it aint worth it, trust me

Buying a Xr8 or a fairmont 5.0 would be a better idea if your set on a v8. A ghia spec fairmont would be great, all the luxary & the v8 to boot.

I have an issue atm, i have an EB series 1 Xr8, 5spd dual fuel, with extractors, a chip and it seems a small cam as well. It will be on the road soon, once i'm done repairing the body work. I also have a EB Series 2 Ghia, Lpg Injection, i6, 5spd conversion, full leather, extractors & sports exhaust system. I probably have to sell one of them, as i don't really need them both, as i also have a few other cars.

But i can't for the life of me make up my mind. v8 5spd or i6 5spd. Either way, which ever one i keep i think i will have to turbo or supercharge it. There isn't much difference in power between either car. If i keep the Xr8 i will have to swap in the full leather, do a climate & power window conversion, as i don't want to loose all the nice luxary of the ghia. It will be a little while before i have to make the decision tho...

Cheers

Just buy the ED Ghia mentioned in terroristghia's post and get a 5spd conversion for 1500ish and hey presto, the car of your dreams

I wouldnt bother mucking around with wiring etc i guarantee you'll run into issue's with the wiring and things not working properly. I should know i've done it all before

There are differences in wiring between every model. Ford is just a PITA

Unless your very capable with auto elecs i'd steer clear

DC wiring is so basic how hard can it be. Positive, negative, 50 50 chance of getting it right. DMM and some commonsense and its not that hard. OOPS, sorry mentioned commonsense.

Your right what you say is common sense but not taking into account the ford factor, I've seen some odd things in eseries cars espesially when it comes to wiring looms

Besides, the question asked at the start of the thread tells me the fella doesn't know a whole lot about falcons. I'm just trying to guide him down the easiest route to get what he wants, a V8 falcon. If he didn't realise they made them by the 1000's from factory then i doubt he should attempt any conversion

OOPS Why be a smart a**

It all depends if he wants to put a fuel injected motor or a carburated motor in. The first being slightly more difficult than the second.

If he wants to remain road legal & not go straight LPG he will have to go with a EFI 5lt windsor, from a EB - EL falcon.

Man aussie rules suck. I've just droped a 351 clevo into my eb no probs, just need a cert and on the road it goes. Dont even need cats.

Yeah on one hand they do, but let's face it. A good set of cat's won't hurt your performance, sure it will cost a bit, but you will be doing less harm to the environment at the end of the day. I don't have to fit a cat to my mighty boy when i turbo it, but i'm going to anyway, because it's not that expensive & the less harm i can do to the environment with my hobby the better.

You could get a 351 clevo into a EB over here with a engi cert, running straight LPG to avoid needing cat's & emissions testing as well. BUT it wouldn't be that practical. Easier to get an imported 351w with ECU and bolt that in. If the ECU is programmed to meet CARB std's, it shouldn't require an emissions test, as the CARB std's are stricter than our aussie std's.

Cheers
