Unfortunately, you can't remove the shroud until you remove the clutchfan first. I recently removed mine. Used a big a** shifter, I think the nut is either 22 - 24mm. There is a part of the shroud on either side that is indented so you can get the shifter in there. Position the shifter on the drivers side and give it a couple of sharp blows with a hammer towards the battery. Once you've cracked the nut, it's just a matter of being patient and doing baby turns of the nut until it comes free.
Good luck with it champ. Cheers, Mick

Cheers, Mick This is how i used to do it(got thermos now) except i used to remove two bolts from the water pump pulley as well so you can get a decent bite on the nut with the 12 inch shifter.

leave the belt on until you crack the nut, it will be fkn tight if its never been off before but just give it a few sharp blows to the left

I recently did the thermo conversion to my EA (I6) the nut on the fan is reverse thread. So from standing in front of the car i hit the spanner towards the passenger side of the car (air box side). Not sure if it is different in a V8. Secondly the shroud i grabbed a pair of tin snips and cut through it. Was never going to use it again. |

They are designed to take most your skin off ya knuckles..
So may as well stuff them in grinder to remove heaps of skin.. Then you'll find it easy to come off..Lol.. Yep normal thread ...Opposite to 6 cyl..

Dont use a mallet use a HAMMER, you need to shock it and real hard and the mallet is designed to reduce shock.
