Hi, came across these radiators on ebay that are 52mm thick. just wondering if anyone has used them before, if so how does it work effectively. As of now i have a standard repco special in my ef xr8 which if memory serves me correctly is 24-26mm thick and on days with temps above say 25deg the needles sits consistently at 1/2 but not quite 3/4 of the way up the gauge. It doesn't overheat but its just way to hot for my liking plus the heat soak within the engine bay is just ridiculous.

{DESCRIPTION}

ive had the cooling system power flushed by a radiator specialist and also had the current radiator pulled appart and cleaned (by the same guys). Changed the thermostat with a genuine ford unit at the same time also.

fans are working correctly and coming on at the right times

im thinking the vanes on the water pump are corroded and reducing coolent flow.

i don't have the cash for a $900 pwr radiator plus i reckon that would be overkill for a fairly standard xr8 but am unsure of what it would cost for a custom made radiator to suit.

any opinions would be much appreciated. cheers

Only problem that I could see is would it fit?

Not sure about the length difference between the 6's and 8's but I know when I put my 3 core in mine it is that tight of fit I broke a bit of plastic off the power steering wheel and mine is only around 40mm let alone 52mm.

6's and 8's run the same radiator, when you say power steering wheel do you mean the pulley that drives the pump. cheers

yeah that's the one. The point I was trying to make tho is there more room up the front of an 8 or a 6

I would be interested too seeing as though I have exactly the same issue in my 5.0 NF and the same but to a lesser degree in the missus's EL XR8.
From seeing hwat Chinese cars parts are like but Im not tipping that they would be any good but.

As long as the core is good you could allways repair the aluminum.

thats my thought exactly.

i was reading their feedback and buyer's main concerns are that they need to be slightly modified to fit. exactly what these are i do not know

i have msg'd one of their customers who bought the ef/el radiator asking him if the quality was any good and what mods he had to do to make it fit. i am still waiting on a response.

the only problems i've heard of is there not enough bracing top to bottom on the core and it deforming and leaking over time...

6 and 8s did not use the same radiator!!
6cyl used a 25mm one, V8 had a 32mm one. I just pulled the factory one out of my XR8 a few weeks ago, and it was definately 32mm thick. Also replaced it with a 32mm one which was an aftermarket EB-EL V8 one.

Vanes on waterpump shouldnt corrode as they are stainless steel
My EL XR8 with a new waterpump, radiator, thermostat and coolant, sits between the slash and L on the guage in 30+ degree heat.

ill have a look tomorrow at work to see what the ford catalog says but im almost certain that ive checked this before. the el gt lists the same part no as a gli.

i remember ringing up the store where i bought it from and telling them that they had given me a 6cyl radiator when i specifically asked for a v8 one. there response was they both list the same part no. anyways ill check it again tommorow and report my findings

Originally the V8 one from factory was thicker then the 6 cylinder one.
Now all the aftermarket ones are the same part number for both 6 and V8.
They are even the same part number through Ford themsleves now.

I have this identical problem on my el 5.0, my cooling system is brand new and it still gets just up over the m in normal.
I can only put it down to the way the ecu controls the fans because i have done everything and still no joy, the high fans dont come on until its way too hot :(
i just replaced my water pump because i thought that was it(only thing i hadnt replaced) and that didnt help at all either and i also run a high flow thermostat and have a new radiator and new fan relays too and ford coolant.
All of my v8 and six radiators between eb-el have been identical for the last 8 or so years and i always get genuine, but im sure they charge you more for the "v8" version haha
