Hi guys,
I'm installing an AU 5.0 litre into my XH gli I6. I've sourced a series 2 XR8 which should be 200kw and pulled the motor apart today. I've read heaps of info on AU V8 variants, how to identify by throttle body, signed plate location etc. This motor has no tickford wings on the TB and it's plate is on the passenger side. So I assume 200kw. The strange thing is... Shouldn't it have normal crane rockers? I was surprised/happy to see, Yella Tella Rollers! What's going on? Is it a 220? Can anyone help explain? Many thanks

I'm not sure, they look the same as the factory Yella Terra set.
I haven't taken the cam out yet but I will be next weekend, should be interesting Does anyone know what the cam specs were for 200kw vs 220kw?

I thought Tickford used both Crane/Ford Racing and YT rockers.
Not sure on specs but the 200 cam is actually bigger than the 220, although the 220 used 1.7 ratio rockers. |

Cool, thanks Troyman! That'll be a sure sign but I won't be able to check until Tuesday when I'm back at my mates garage.
Cheers, NLGHIA5.0 - Once I find out engine spec I'll be changing my cam anyhow Might aswell while its out and I'm doing the head gaskets While I'm on the subject any recommendations for cam choice? If it's 1.6 ratio? 1.7 ratio? Cam can be aggressive as I'll be doing a j3 chip and dizzy set up. Unfortunately I cant find much info on running au looms, dizzy and bcm in an xh {DESCRIPTION}

So are you saying you want to run an AU harness/EEC and then put a dizzy in? Why?
I've done an AU EEC/Harness engine into an XH.....it's fairly involved. |

What I've come up with is either
1)Au motor and trans with e series accessories and dizzy. Run with el fairmont/nl fairlane eec (to control trans tcm) with a j3 chip to make the tune aggressive again. Or 2) Au motor, trans, engine loom, au eec/ coil packs, dash loom, bcm and au dash and cluster, basically all the front end wiring looms being swapped and running smartshield... Although I imagine the au dash will be a real headache to mount. Am I way off with these options, what would you recommend?

As you are starting with an I6. I'd go straight for the full AU EECV setup.
Your stock cluster(if you want to keep it?) will work with the AU EEC btw. It was many years ago that I did this conversion for a guy with a very nice XH XR8. I think we used the AU column/dash wiring/engine bay wiring etc and then had to stick it on the WDS at Ford to recode the smartshield for the whole shebang because he had a BEM from here and EEC from there etc etc. If you do it this way then you can go for a moates 1/4 horse and be able to real time program both engine and trans. The other way, you'll be needing a donor V8 ute unless you want to adapt an EL V8 harness which does have it's differences. |

Thanks heaps XR9UTE
I'm not familiar with Moates, so I'll need to read up. I have a whole donar car, so all wiring, eecv, dash loom will come from the same xr8. Wouldn't it all be synced so I can avoid the trip to ford to reprogram smartshield? Are you also saying I can swap all the wiring but still use the xh dash? I'm trying to avoid as much elec work as possible unless I can just swap looms without having to trick heaps of relays into getting signals and other tricky wiring etc etc Im probably missing a few important details. Please, forgive my ignorance

You won't need to re-code anything no.
Yes to the dash but connectors/pinout could be different so there'll still be some muckin around. |

Thanks again XR9UTE
Any idea how I'd go physically mounting a whole AU dash in instead of keeping xh? I imagine heater box/demisters would need to change. Or anyone you could recommend that might know?
