Does anyone know if you can have a MAFFLESS tune done on a AU V8....and if so what are the results like???
Cheers!

Nope, can't be done without going to aftermarket ECU

yeah the only way is to get an aftermarket computer.

You could probably run it on a BA computer, or a speed density computer from an early 5.0 Mustang, or F-Series truck.
The question is why? Unless the MAF you are using is a real restriction....but even then, you would be better just changing to a bigger MAF. I think it is the Koenigsegg that makes 800hp+ using a Ford EEC computer, and 90mm MAF's that where originally used on the F150 Lightning. Anyway, as has been said...easiest way to go MAFless would be to convert to an aftermarket engine management system. |

who go a maffless tune. from what ive heard. the 5ltr runs better with the maf anyway. plus then u gotta stuff around with a few other things... i think u would be wasting your money... if air flow is the problem put a 75mm throttlebody and maf etc on... with a intake upgrade...

I can see why...
MAF is a superior method of measuring air... but the sensor itself is a restriction before long... and a big MAF costs quite a bit of $$$. Rory, anything that will take a manifold pressure sensor input will be capable of a MAFless tune.

A 90mm Lightning MAF can be had for $99 U.S. Pretty cheap if you ask me.
Lets talk about why MAFless tuning "appeared". It mainly came about because GM tuners who, used to tuning Speed density delco rubbish couldn't cope with the GM MAF based systems. The main cause of this was due to the slow signal response time of the frequency based GM MAF and the restriction caused by the air stratifier(bit like a honeycomb grill). This stratifier is made necessary by the hotwire across the whole width of the MAF. The later GM MAF's are much better and faster response times require less filtering by the ECU. Examples have been shown on some GM vehicles where switching from MAF to SD actually reduced performance and of course idle performance with big cams is much improved with the MAF system. The Hitachi MAF used by Ford only samples part of the airflow and it's response time is very fast too. The only real reason to switch to SD is because you have an intake manifold that makes using a MAF difficult. Pete. |
