Lads I have been offered a upper and lower explorer manifold and TB from an AU II for $100 and was wondering if it would bolt on to the DL 5.0?

Yep, explorer manifolds are a god budget bolt on. and the price is very good. 65mm TB as well? not 100% sure on that side but that manifold will drop straight in.

hehe looks like it could be a busy weekend then....so out of interest how much of an increase in reality is there?......is it just power or do they run more efficiently?

that is a bargain buy, does it come with the tb as well?
the only problem you will encounter is the iat sensor, on the fairlane the iat will be on the lower manifold, on the au's the iat is on the intake pipe 2 options, tap and drill your iat onto the explorer lower extend the iat wiring by about 30-45cms and tap it into the air intake like on the au with the explorer i found even cruising at lower rpm it felt much smoother edit* just remembered, i blocked off the egr, there was a vacum line i ran a t piece, and also you will need the bolts from the au manifold.. |

Thanks for the heads up Andy, so which is the best?.....there is going to be a (I would have thought) a great deal of difference between the inlet and the manifold temperature.
And yeah everything from the lower manifold up. I think its only a 60mm TB or are they a standard 65?

if its from an au its 65mm tb
would be better for the iat sensor to be on the lower manifold, however i am running it on the intake pipe, and i know of a few others doing the same, and we havent had any issues ... (yet ) |

well it sure as hell sounds like the easiest way to do it!!. So do these things give much of a performance boost?...im not expecting to be going s**t sideways or anything but im hoping to feel something

If you dont put your IAT on the lower manifold, the sensor doesnt get warm enough to allow the ECU to do any learning.
Remember - the pre-au calibration is compensated for the additional temps of the manifold. If its in the air inlet it wont be anywhere near as warm. There will be other issues with that such as the engine running richer etc. Still, if it works, it works. I just picked up an EL 185 engine, with the IAT tapped into the lower |

But yeah you should notice a small gain. Next project.... Heads.

same place as it is on the ho manifold, as nigel mentioned the el 185 motors have the explorer manifolds with the iat on the lower manifold
the 302 with ho manifolds are listed at 170kw, the el 185kw had better headers and the explorer manifold, so just with the manifold you will notice a bit on the bumometer |
