Hi i have one very problematic au v8, my latest is that while cruise or shortly after start up it will be like it outta time, back when i had the EL when it was way to retarded in the timing it would miss and all power gone, u know the feel right?. well the cars always done this occasionally while taking off but now it just does it while cruizing or after starting the car, it just goes dead like only a few sparks are going and then put more throttle down gets out of the miss and roars of but when back to normal still stuffed. the only way to fix it has been to stop the car turn it off and start it back up again.
i have done fuel pump twice (got a dodgy one off ebay and had to buy a real one.) all injectors reco'd fuel filter replaced. no vacuum leaks, 2x new oxygen sensors, 2 different sets of leads and 2 sets of spark plugs as well as new coil packs. no change to flat spot and now worse as it doing it at cruising speed. Could it be the CKP crank shaft position sensor above the harmonic balance? that read off the teeth? or the camshaft position synchronizer that sits below the coil packs? or could it be something else completely? could i have missed something? its like the damn thing looses track of the timing. anyone experienced this? |

Sounds similar to a MAF problem. Unplug the MAF and see if it goes away. If it does, then theres your problem.
Do a diagnostic check and see what comes up. All i can think of right now. Brett

Funny this thread appears now.
I have the exact same problem aswell as a severe vibration in 4th gear @ 1600-1700rpm. I initially thought Harmonic Balancer for sure. However yesterday I had the battery disconnected for 15 minutes because I was working on a unrelated matter, and since then the car is running sweet. This would lead me to believe it is not a moving part like the balancer but rather a electronic mishap like a sensor that has been reset when the ECU was reset. Have ordered 2nd hand TPS as new O2 sensors as these were rooted anyway. Waiting to see if the problem appears again.

Did it with the MAF disconnected as i had known it runs without it from mucking around ages ago with it, sadly still does it. was talking to the ford blokes at the parts and service and went through it with them they said its a likely bet. less likely the Cam position sync as they just die or make s**t of noise and die.
a new balancer etc was fitted to my car by ford before buying it a year ago so i can assume thats in good nic. one thing they did say, i mentioned when i got my car i pulled the ecu out and it was loaded with corrosion around the pins to the point one fell out, but iv cleaned that up. they said water can get in down the window and onto the ecu wiring loom... which makes sense to the damage i seen when i got it, but no water that i can tell has touched it since. Damn if i can find a wafb ecu i been looking for one since i found that corrosion even ftg on here dosent have one will have the ckp sensor tomorrow and will report back if it makes a difference (just put a tank full of vortex 98 in her $92 ouch) Anyone know why that sensor works? is it magnetized? obviously senses the metal teeth. oh and car has done 300600klms lol |

If the TPS wasnt working correctly what problems would that cause? or if it was out of adjustment. would it mess with air fuel ratio's by not saying throttle open yet?
how do i set one up correctly on the au v8 if possible to adjust these? |

Checked the max ellerys book..... love its description... ensure tps is in correctly and plug it in. (roughly those words)
Anyone au v8 series 1 tps (3 wires) How does one check if this is telling my ecu the right info? |

See the below thread. ford-v8-f2/adjusting-base-idle-and-setting-t-p-s-voltage-t56990.html "on the AU's the two wires you need to read from are the grey one's." P.S. my problem is with my torque converter. Is sitting in the Auto shop as we speak.

Hope that goes well and u get the results you need.
Just played with the tps, and theres not much room for improvement. the base idle 1st was set way to low couldnt run even after warmed, (which the tps was reading 1.11v, after tweaking and getting the right idle it was up 1.20ish, then adjusted back to 1.15, which was the maximum adjustment. while there i did check WOT, which was around 4.6 volt i swear i read it only goes to 2.7v... so is this just an AU v8 thing? or is my TPS fubar? also according to the volt meter, the grey wire with red on it is the negative and the second grey wires the positive. was using the volt meter correctly as i checked the battery as a test and it read 12.45v not in the minuses. going to go check the max ellorys 10 times over to see if i can get these number. |

Hope the obd2 scanner works for you, found nothing on mine.
cant really definitively say the crank positition sensor has made a difference but i do believe the flat spot is gone, and sure as eggs runs smoother. id rather wait to say that incase its having a freak few days where it runs well. will say more later. btw keep in mind obd2 scanner cant pick up alotta things, like the other then s5 gearbox solenoid and the cks etc there are alotta blind spots. cant wait to hear how urs goes. |

so yeah 98% hesitation gone, and next to no flat spot. i think the biggest part of it was the vacuum leak coming from the L rubber piece behind the plenum that connects the the heating and aircon vacuum lines, because even tho it seemed to be in it was still quite loose and i believe was a major leak.

on a follow up im looking at a sensor any feed back would be nice.
put it in the ecu section as its related ecu-fuel-system-eec-f21/au-v8-s1-iat-t93571.html |

Just another update, The Oxygen sensors that i had bought off ebay that have the genuine NTK logo and ford logo on them a cheap defective peices of Crap.
Buyer beware the number off the O2 sensor is F5MF-9F472-B1B the air fuel ratios here are widely out and upon putting new NTK 0za201-d2 sensors in have seen a LARGE improvement. After a quick google im not the only one thats had probs. http://www.fordforums.com.au/printthrea ... ge=2&pp=30 Same numbers. hope this helps people. and the seller i purchased from http://myworld.ebay.com.au/skonsi Best of luck if you have bought one, hope me and that guy are one offs. |
