Getting sick of my 4.0 AUII wagon. The headgasket was done at 45,000km and I think its just starting to go again at 75,000km. Also sick of the lack of power down low, especially when towing a trailer.
I am considering converting to a 5litre from AU I, II or III. Has anyone done this before, or can think of any traps i might encounter along the way? I have sent an enquiry off to FTG Salvage to get an idea of part costs. Any info would be appreciated.

dude
it will require everythign in the frotn of the firewall to be removed/replaced ie all engine and wiring components including the engine bay wiring looms a new ecu a new dash cluster then i think the gearbox is slightly different lots and lots of work! u are better either A spend some $ on a cam, exhaust intake for a good increase in power b sell yours and buy a v8 and 3 if the head gasket was done at 45000kms should have been under warreny and should not be going at 30thousand kms later i would be back to the mech on that!

V8 wagons are a rare breed, not even sure you could get one in an AU from Ford, I know you can't in the BA/BF.
Don't mind the work, I'm a mechanic by trade, so that side of it doesn't worry me. The headgasket was done under warranty. Ford only give you 12 months / 20,000 km warranty on their work don't they? Ive had a guts full of the lack of grunt below 3000rpm. This is only the kids taxi, but Im getting blown off by Camrys on the way to school!!!!
