Hi guys,

I have been a member on here for years although I don't post much anymore anyways.

I have just purchased an AU2 XR8 220 5 Speed, the alloy radiator has split at the passenger side housing. I have purchased a new copper ADRAD raditor off ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/FORD-FALCON- ... 9872380%26).

I messaged the seller before I bought this item as was unsure it was the correct one for my vehicle, he assured me it was correct. I was concerned about how on the front of the passenger side of the radiator, it looks as though the A/C lines mount to the radiator and one goes into it. I have attached some images to help you see my query.

Coolant can not be running the A/C that doesnt make sense to me. Is that tube just a mount for the lines? I am unsure whether to send the radiator back now.

If any one has any experience in changing a radiator in one these things and can help shed some light on it I would be most greatful!

you will find thats your ac condensor, its bolted to the front of the radiator by 4 small bolts..

so before you pull the radiator out undo the 4 bolts and the radiator will sepperate from the condensor..

Thanks troyman.

Will i lose the A/C gas?

the new radiator has nothing to mount the condensor on, will this be problem do you think? I dont want to a loose condenser flapping around. i will have to have another look at it.

you wont loose any gas aslong as the pipes are left connected..

you will need to make a couple of brackets for the condensor if the new one dont have mounts for it...

So the radiator is the wrong one if there's no mounts for the condensor.

Nah mate, i was looking at the condensor in front of the radiator. I had an EB Fairmont before which was different so i really didnt know what is was looking at with the AU - my mistake. My BA never had radiator troubles so i looked at the type either.

Radiator is all good has mounts for the condesor and all, will be putting it in tomorrow.

I replaced my radiator in my Fairmont and found that Ford made a mod to stop the stress to the in and out flow header tanks which is the cause of most leaks from the El through to the last of the AUs the mod is basic and did the trick it was a cut (hack saw) to the top and bottom rail that runs along the top and bottom of the fins (250mm)from the right hand side on the top and (250mm) from the left hand side on the bottom. I rang the Ford spares where I brought it as I throught it had been tampered with before I got it but when told no it was a mod and when I removed the old alli one they must have known about for some years as it had the cuts in it as well date on radiator 2002.

Yeh the old alloy one which was leaking had the cuts in the top a bottom beam. I believe that would be for the expansion and contraction during temp changes.

The copper radiator is in now, seams to be all good. All though the air con dumped all its gas when I took it for a drive, more things to fix

Yes they may have had several reasons for them to fix wonder who came up with this mod ,not an engineer  as they would have seen this from the EL. Yes when I changed my one the power cable broke to the fans :? took me over an hour to find. It was easy when I used a multi meter "duh"
