Well guys, as the topic says.
I'm lookign at buying a new car, and I've always loved the kitted au3 xr8s. Now a prereq of me getting a new car is i want it to be quick, so I'd like to get it well into the 13s, street trim. Now, anyone know what it will take to get this car there? and how much sort of dollars I'm looking at? Thanks all. |

Now, anyone know what it will take to get this car there? Get a BA 3V Sorry dude, couldn't help myself As for getting an AU3 XR8 into the 13's it wouldn't be too hard, they do high 14's from the factory don't they? (or was that just Ford's claim?) But, do you want a low 13? & how do you want to get there? A few engine mods, shorter gearing & a few other compromises or serious power & daily driveability? Also manual or auto? Either way you will need to address getting it off the line quickly, ie. traction & torque (manuals have a much shorter 1st gear, which helps). Sticky boots, soft rear suspension & removing every last gram of weight you don't need would help. Compromises that reduce the cruising comfort like shorter gearing, stall converter (if auto) & a longer duration cam could do it. Next step would be port the GT40P's or fit alloys (bonus of less weight) to help the top end & a mild cam so as to not sacrifice too much bottom end. Then again, stroking or supercharging instead of the compromises would cost alot more, but be more daily driver friendly (with the right combo). In the end, you get what you pay for. If you just want the time slip, compromise the long distance & traffic comfort. If you want it to still be a comfortable street friendly car, up the torque across the rev range.

look for a TE/TS50 AU111, 5.6ltr 5spd 250kw. From tickford they are awsome be getting very close to 13s, but with some more work to them they would be easily in the 13s

$1150 should sort you out for a mid to low 13 on an AUIII XR8. Thats all it cost to put a dry NOS system on it

How much can you afford??
{DESCRIPTION} The 400rwhp should be more than enough to get you into the 12s. As for how long it will last with NOS, as long as it is set up correctly, and you don't thrash it all the time (again, depending on what your wallet can afford), it shouldn't take too much out of the motor.

if you buy an xr8 5spd, Install 2031 crane cam, 1.7 yellaterra r.r', spaceys, k&n air filter and, purchase a CAPA FLASH TUNER and get it tuned at dyno.
Did this to my ute and producing 200rwkws. brand new parts cost me $3500 and did all work myself. If you look around you could save money on some second hand parts and cheap buys on here or ebay. havent timed it, but standing start-400mtr mark doing 170km/h

What does an AU edit cost these days? Those motors are 220kw outta the box arent they?
Are per chrisredden's comments... basic mods will get you well over 200rwkw... should get you well under 14 in excess of 100mph... Or just go see CAPA. If they can get a stock auto EF 5L to do 14 flat then they should be able to do wonders with a S3.

i got a 13.9 out of my series 3 xr8 manual as highlighted in this post http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopi ... ht=xr8+13s
all i did was spend around $3000 on a full exhaust system and 3.9 diff gears. now that the edits out you could do that and throw nice cam in her and she should be well into the 13's for under $5000

Theres a guy in Vic that has an AUIII XR8 with just a Unichip, G&D airbox, and exhaust and he has a PB of 13.77 or thereabouts.
If you want comfortable 13.5's I would suggest Hurricane headers, edit (custom tune), and mild cam (2030/2031/TFS1). Shorter diff gears, and professional sealed airbox e.g. Bluepower or G&D (none of this "big" snorkel on a stock airbox garbage) would certainly help. |
