Hey guys, I've been looking at these two cars, and I'm wondering if there is a huge difference? Is it like the difference between EL1 and 2 with just minor improvements over the original or is there a large difference between the two cars?
Always had a 6 so I'm pretty new to the 8 stuff, so any advice would great! |

I wouldn't say that the transformation from EL to EL2 was minor....
Yes there would be a noticeable difference between the two. For example, Motor mag has recorded the AUII at 0-100 in 7.2 and the AUIII at 6.40. Are you lookin at buying one? |

Yeah I'm thinking about it.
What I meant was, say if you buy a 200 do you have to do much work to make it equivalent to the 220... That's what I meant between EL and EL2, because the actual mechanical difference was fairly minor wasn't it? |

Get the AUIII, IMO it looks so much better than all the other AUs.

auIII is a bit pricey, as a rule <especially in 5 speed> and the auII is fairly similar...

either way. you will probably want to mod it.
meaning you will probably end up changing rockers/cams etc. so just pay less for the au2 and use the savings on the mods and you will get more than 220

Exactly. Get the AU2, throw a Crane 2030 or TFS1 cam into it and along with a decent exhaust it should easily make 240+kw. |

I'm guessing the only real difference between them was the cam.

Cam was different but from what I have heard it is slighly smaller on the 220kw engine, but the 220kw engien also got some head work (porting and larger valves), the port matched intake manifold, better exhaust (I believe) and a more aggressive tune. Other mods included the 70mm MAF but IMO that probably didn't do anything for performance.

In that case, its a substantial difference between them for just those 20 odd kw in terms of mechanical upgrades.

If that's the case how in god's name did the only get an increase of 20kW?! |

I ask the same questions regarding the e-series XR6's mate |

From what I have heard the cam is only slightly smaller in the 220's but may be disigned more towards a better peak power (not sure). The head work increased flow by almost 20% which together with the better exhaust and tune could easily account for the extra 20kw. |
