The AUIII XR8's were actually quicker in most tests I saw compared with the earlier GenIII commies. I would go for the AU over the EL anyday, the AU has far more potential and make good power even with dimple mods.

Motor magazine, amongst others had the AU 220kw XR8 quicker than the 225kw GenIII commie both down the 1/4 and in track times. However a later test had the 1/4 mile times reversed from memory, but the times were so close on the road it would come down to the better driver.

As for the AU looks, that is totally a personal opinion. There are many who hate its looks and they keep baging the hell out of it every chance they get, but many actually do like them, especially the XR's and T-series.

yes but if you spend $3000 on the 5 litre, and $3000 on the 5.7, the 5.7 will come out with over 230rwkw, but the 5 litre will come out with nothing near 230rwkw.

The LS1 is a freak of a motor, especially with the LS1 edit. All u need is headers, exhaust, cold air and a tune with the LS1 edit and you have a potential mid 12 second car with the right tyres.

just to add on, my mates vt gen III ss manual, he pulled a 13.9 out of it stock as a rock, now its running mid 11's in street trim, and high 10's in race trim. making close to 310rwkw, and still needs a bigger fuel rail, bigger intake and throttle body. thats natrually aspirated to

I think the au xr8 series 3 is a nice lookn car, as for the potential of the windsor compared to the ls1, u should look at the americans, my brother is over there, the amount of parts that u can get for a windsor is unreal, and the price is dirt cheap, the only difference is that the manifold is backwards, but i think they still work backwards.

A VTII SS auto, stock as a rock, and with 200,000 on the clock was running 14.9s at WSID on Wednesday in about 40 degree heat...

With a MAFless tune and OTR CAI, it did a 13.9 at the very end of the night (it was still 30 degrees at 10pm).

They are pretty quick ;)

i dont know if its just me but the auto cars dont seem anywhere near as quick as the manual LS1's. the autos seem very sluggish whereas the manuals really go. as i said, housemates ran 13.9 stock as a rock, nothing at all done to it at heathcote park, it was at night though, pretty chilly.

What was the diff ratio in the manuals? The auto has a 3.07 which seems real tall....
