It's not a great deal different. Scroll down in this thread and find where I've overlaid a smallblock sandwich plate over a modular genset bellhousing and you'll see the differences...

Ok so I checked the post it looks good from my angle I'm just not sure if the dellows adaptor will bolt up to it with out much hassel? what about the starter motor would I use the old school starter or the ford BA one in the old style bell housing? pluse there are the small things like a machined flywheel to fit my box I have one for the 5L I wonder if it will fit the BA? Any ideas on that one?

not yet but I'm about to purchase a BA XR8 5.4 motor lock stock and barrel I have a 5L out of a XH ute with the 4 speed but the Patrol's bay is really big and I wanted to fill it up/lol. Pluse the 260KW as opposed to the claimed 185kw will be better low down torque as have read in previous posts but this all hinges on the fact I need the 5.4 to be able to mat up to the dellows converter houseing I have!
I will stick some pics up soon just so people can have a look at what a ford can do in other applications..!

The 5L has more down low torque by far over the 5.4 quad cam.

Yes it is correct....in a 4WD I'd use a 3V engine. A 3V V10! :D

I was always under the impression that there is no subsistute for Cubic inches! LOL
the bigger the engin the more low down torque? Please correct me if I am wrong?
but anyway I guess I'll just have to see witch one gives me less hassles to jam in the bay....

I thought the BOSS motors had bucketloads of low down torque?

The Boss motor is very peaky due to the head design, and the cams used.

ok well by next weekend I'll have the two motors sitting on my garage floor oh and i'll have a super charger for the 5.4 as well! so there will be some measuring and scratching of the head as to witch one I stick in. I've seen that there is a lot more work to get all the useable ponies out of the 5L and I have that allready with the 5.4. remember that this is going through a 5 speed and a transfer case. Plus I'm running 4.6/1 diff lockers? see attached specs..
so I'm gunna have to do some maths to see whats best option?
