just asking a few questions sorry if they've been answered but search is down still.

did the ba fairmont ghia's that came out with v8s come with lsd?

also how do the 3v motors compare to the boss 260. i know they are less powerfull but have more torque down low. what about driveability? fuel consumption? quarter mile times?

thanks alot.

no they do not have LSD, for some stupid reason ford decided to leave the single spinner in there...

The 3V motors are a great engine, they rev pretty well through the rev range, and is defently my pick over the BOSS engine. Much easier to modify down the track too.

Fuel consumption around town is about 12-13L and freeway gets to about 10-11L, its not bad as long as you drive it properly.

Great engine and much more drivable around town than a Boss, you can use the power more. Fuel consumption, 13-16L around town is more the average, some people get less but it all depends on driving style, conditions etc etc. On a stock car i was getting 15-16L around town and 10-12L freeway. On a modified one I'm getting anywhere up to 22L around town and 9-10L freeway (without cruise control).

Stock car is pretty bad performance wise but good CAI, exhaust and tune makes it a much better car to drive. Qtr mile times are about low 15s stock and high 13's with CAI, exhaust and tune. Record is 12.58

pretty devo about the lsd thing :(
wow its not often that an exhaust system and cai wipe more than a second off a quarter mile time. why did they come out of the facotry so restrictive?

im close to buying a dark blue one from my uncle for really really cheap, fully optioned just been lowered on new rims etc, cream leather its a very smooth looking car sounds good too. havnt driven it yet though.

ive heard they start to run out of puff towards the top of the rev range so is there any good effective mods to help that?

o and by the way how much and how difficult is a diff transfer ;) for down the track.

I'm pretty sure they got the M86 diff in them (turbo/boss diff) so you could get a new centre at a diff shop. A good CAI and exhaust give it more mid to top end power, the intake is VERY restrictive and the exhaust is useless, pretty much a standard 6cyl exhaust on it.

Sounds like you're on a good buy there, which model is it an how much are you going to pick it up for?

my bf mk2 ghia doesn't run out of puff up top - i'm p****d at the 5200rpm limit, hits it far to quick, feels it'd be good for another 500rpm at least.

Hitting it is bloody violent.

This is stock btw, a CAI will help it breathe up top, its mainly the intake that limits that.

can anyone else back up punktured about the diff?
should be picking it up for around 10 grand mark and its just a ba (mk1 i think). pretty good i think considering its fully optioned, has nice rims and is lowered etc. that price beats the hell out of the xr8s i was looking at for 20 - 25k. although i wanted manual the offer is too good to pass up.
CAI and full twin exhausts will be the first things done for sure

is there a mechanical reason why the limiter is set so low?

Possibly because they run out of puff higer in the range?

A flash tune could change that very easily, also when getting the centre, a set of 3.7s would go very nicely indeed, be a Boss eater!

Go 4.11's or don't bother :P Still drivable on the hwy and great fun all round. The engine runs out of power around 5400 rpm so you don't need to go much more than that, and as for the 3v being a Boss eater, well a stock FPV/XR8 or HSV/SS it will munch, off the line you will leave pretty much any car for dead 8-) But because of the lack of power up top a Boss or LS will get you in the long run (eg qtr mile).

ive been reading abit on redbok.com.au etc. it gives the fairmont ghia a fuel rating of 14.5L/100
where the xr8 is something like 12. both with autos.
is the fairmont really that much worse than the xr8? i would have thought the 260 would chew more fuel?

by the way the cars a late 2004. so ba mk11 :)
