So my Monty s**t itself the other day, turns out to be the ECU and they seem to be non-existent to replace.

To repair, re-program and install I am looking at $1500 which is a bit compared to the value of the car.

I was under the impression that you could just grab an ECU from another V8 Monty and chuck it in but the bloke from the Eleco reckons thats not the case.

Anyone know much about how these thigs work and could shed some more light on that? (Not that I have had any luck even finding one anyway)

The car is my baby so I guess I'll do it, just somewhat annoying...

wow! ..... reprograming/install is easy using Forscan & a license = free. if you checkout the numbers on the side of the PCM [ECU] that should give you a 'guide' on what PCM to use. also with the 'bolts' on the PCM, they are not that hard to remove & replace with 'normal' bolts as that is what i did with my BA 6 cylinder. also this lists some - {DESCRIPTION} on the 1st page to give an idea. not sure about the V8 PCM's but the PCM's from the 6 cylinder BA's are a two connector [unless turbo & then 3] on the PCM with BF 6 cylinder then going 3 connector.

good luck with it.

Still in the shop, the ECU went to Brisbane for a week for testing, no faults at all. Car still being s**t so now turning the connectors, loom, etc.

Will update once the issue has been found.

Ok the BA GT catch code is different so no good, once you replied i realised it's the 3V 5.4Lt V8.

If you PCM is 100% good and fault lie elsewhere , did you use a scantool before removing the PCM out of the car? see what codes may have been logged?

I know it's no help as you have said your PCM is good so far the people that are check it for you, by the way there is a PCM on ebay at the moment robbos auto parts and panels has one for sale.

Will be interesting to see what the fault turns out to be!

cheers

Yeah, the Auto Elec did a scan and it spat out pretty well every code which is what led us to think the PCM was fried, but turns out it's not so guessing it is an issue somewhere else.

Update: This was the ECU, massive issues back and forth with the guys doing the repair and program in Brisbane. They found some bad solder joints which were fine on the bench but back in the car would screw up with movement.

Once that was fixed it has been good until today, died again and now when you go to start it, all electronics are on but no kick. Tried bypassing the starter relay and got it to kick but no fuel.

I think the ECU has some major issues, if anyone has a spare let me know, I think I need to just go with a freshy.

Cheers

bugga!.

can the PCM software be uploaded to another PCM?. seems the BA PCM's were 'slightly' prone to failure from new ... no idea why tho. the PCM on mine comes up as a 2006 with the car a 2003 as is the rest of the electronics where as another BA has everything as 2003/2004? [that car is 2004]. i'm referring to the Barra 6 not the V8.

Hi.

i think you need to ask questions on Ford Forums, not sure in which section but have put up a general link for the workshop - {DESCRIPTION} or the main page - {DESCRIPTION}

there are more people there with more knowledge etc than what are here.
