Has anyone got any ideas on getting some sort of economy out of a BA XR8? I love the way it goes but it's a little hard around town. Cheers.

it really depends on the way and how you drive it, city driving you could see it doing as high as 15l or 16l/100km where as free way km ive seen one go as low a 10l/100km. also put the foot to the floor and watch the fuel go down by the second, when pushed boss engines are very thirsty

Well put some injector cleaner through it (a good brand not a crappy one they just clog them more) and maybe try using 98 octane. Its a little more expensive but the extra k's you get are worth it. keep in mind you will have to use 2-3 tanks before you will notice a difference. Maybe even get a service...some people use hi-clones...they aren't that expensive or "uniglide", it reduces friction and can really help with economy. If you did all of this you will really notice a diff.

Thanks guys. I'm now using 98 oct, & I'll give a good injector cleaner a go. Who knows what s**t fuel it has had through it.

I'm averaging about 13L/100km in my windsor and my 5.4mod motor is averaging mixed highway/stop-start about 15L/100km. I get up both but not all the time. I've seen as low as 13.8 in my BA.

It all depends on how u drive it
My brother has a BA XR8 ute 5-speed manual and he averages about 15.0L/100km and i have a BA XR6Turbo sedan auto and right now i am trying to get the best out of it all cuty driving and i am averaging 16.5-16.8L/100km. Its kinda gay but i do have a fairly heavy right foot Griffo

Funny this, but I get better fuel economy from regular unleaded, and get better fuel economy when I flog the be-jesus out mine.

my economy sucks, but i know its all my fault i have a heavy foot and with my exhaust system being what it is i love to squirt it to make it rumble so having said that i'm sitting on 16.8L/100km's i've been doing mods to it non stop pretty much for the past 2 months so its never really had the chance to settle and i'm about to do another one lol
5.4L modular FTW |

Thanks guys. It seems to be a common problem with the right foot. I think I have the same problem. The problem is that it's so enjoyable to stick it to it, feel the go & hear the grumble that you simply can't help yourself. Oh well I'll just have to put up with it. Can't deny a man his fun can ya!!!

I've just done a country run of around 500k's. It returned 12l/100k on premium & cruise cont. Bloody good I thought. That was with 5 adults & a boot full of luggage. Much better than i expected. Not pushing the pedal like I have been around town though!!

I get 16's around town out of the GT-P, and that's being driven like I stole it - everywhere!
I recently did a track day at Oran Park, so drive from Canberra, to Oran Park, 40+ laps at full tilt, and drive back to Canberra average for the trip was 16.4L/100. Since I bought it (new), the overall average is 15.69L/100 (over 23,000KMs now).

Getting an edit done usually does wonders for fuel economy on the Boss motors.
