My BA mk2 XR8 that has done 105,000kms is every so often not starting properly.

It will go for a week or so startin fine then it will just turn over and cough a bit and not start, but after a few minutes of trying it will cough enough to start up.

It can happen when the motor is hot or cold starting.

I was talking to a guy that worked on fords and said the manifold might be carboned up.

I'm not convinced, and I am wondering what you guys think.

I haven't had the car that long, but it was ok when I bought it a few months ago.

Any help would be good as my wife is getting p****d off with it happening in the middle of town.

Sounds like a fuel issue, not getting enough fuel

Have a few beers on the weekend, pull the intake manifild off, clean it with the throttle body, MAF also do the fuel filter. See how it goes. If not may need to look at the fuel pump, get it flow tested, is the car losing power at all?

When it won't start, push the accellerator flat and try. Your car may think it's flooded( this is common if you do really short starts like back it out of the shed and stop etc).

It runs mint when its going, no loss of power.

Its sounds like its flooding itself, as it coughs on a few cylinders initially and then runs on all 8.

any problems with the water temp sensor on these, its as if it thinks it cold and has to choke itself?
