Does anyone know what the lowest temp thermostat can be fitted into a BA XR8, I have a slightly lower than factory unit, but I drive for long distances & would like to get the temp down to the lower limits as big power & response is lost pretty quickly after 1/4 on the guage & it often sits around 1/3 when I get in a bit of traffic.

capa do a 160 degree one for the boss motor. It will be slightly cooler as it opens earlier and stays fully open to max. longer allowing max. flow but it still may go up in traffic which is more of an air flow issue. I run a 160 degree and have no issues but mine is T3 not boss.

Why do you want it to run cooler?
They're designed to run at certain operating temps.

They have the thermostats that run the coolest but are out of the rich startup loop.

Hot air is less dense, meaning less oxygen by volume, the ecu is programmed to detect this via temp sensors, and then responds by leaning off the mixture..... meaning less volume of air/fuel to go bang! mainly used for emmission control, but not completely.
but you already knew that right!
cheers kenny

And you already know that running an engine too cold rips the life out of it!
Right?
We all know cold air is good, but cold in the wrong places is bad!

Something my engine machinist always told me, the majority of f**k engines he has done have failed on cylinders that were closest to the water pump (Mind you he is 60 years old)... Hence being the coolest part of the engine.

I guess there are 2 ways of looking at it.

I have settled for a modified thermostat that opens at 85 degrees, and as for plugs.. I fitted a set of NGK power V non iridium TR6's, gotta be the best thing I have done yet, apparently the coil packs are not very strong on the BA, and too much resistance is caused by iridium type plugs once the ECU is re calibrated to get the most from the boss engine, and the gap seems to be best at .036"-.040" giving better low down grunt not to mention the peak increase.
cheers kenny
