posted some pics up of my new car a few months ago when i bought it, i thought id start a proper progress thread on it.

pretty much my car is a BA Fairmont Ghia 3valve v8.
motor is stock standard atm apart from the previous owners k&n panel filter
has brand new superlow suspension
new 18x8 front and 18x10 rear starcorp mags.
106 000 mays on the clock
twin exhaust tip, rear muffler replaced with a hotdog (exhaust is pretty much f**k, dented has holes etc)
being a ghia it came with all the goodies prem sound, leather interior etc. only thing missing is a sunroof :(.

MY PLANS:
im pretty much looking to get it around the 250rwkw mark and keep it as my daily driver.

first things first, to get the timing chain/tensioners/phasers fixed. its pretty rattley especially around 1200 rpm.

.then the usual engine mods, extractors, high flow cats, twin 2.5 system with single mufflers.
.BPR air box with a big shiney pipe going to the t/b :)
.im considering underdrive pulleys
.custom tune

as for the outside im looking at
darker tint
new rims either 19 or 20s then lower it more if it needs it.
possibly spoiler removal aswell

much further down the track if i have the money id consider lsd diff and higher gears.

But all in good time.

hers some pics of how shes sitting at the moment.
hopefully ill be posting up some mod updates in the near future :)

Hey mate.

Just a few things about what your planning... Being an auto you can expect around 220-225rwkw, to get 250 you will have to start looking at a full spec built engine with big cam, higher compression, head work and so on. With your exhaust, go for something that is designed for the motor, you may think 1 muffler will sound better but these engines need some back pressure otherwise you lose performance so a twin muffler cat back is better, and still sounds tuff. And go the under drives :)

Apart from that, enjoy the car. They really come alive with a good cai and exhaust

Awesome car dude, love the 3v Ghias.

punktured is pretty well on the money.

My mates got a BA 3v Fairmont with Pacemakers, cats, twin 2.5", underdrives, CAI and intake pipe, auto and makes around 260-270rwhp.

Yours will go and look awesome when you get started on modding it.

As for wheels, my missus 19's would look good on it ;)

dam 250rwkw sounds so much better haha, have to get higher diff gears then for sure :p.
the rims do look good but yeah exactly what fordfairmont said they look abit small on the b series.
and being a fairmont im looking for something to make it stand out in the crowd abit more.

cams would be good, theres a fair few mustangs in the US that have taken this 5.4 motor out of the f trucks, done all the usual mods then cams and are making some awesome power.
im assuming the work involved would get pretty expensive.

XH5LWEPN what kind of rims has your mrs got??
and do you know how many mufflers your mates running.

wheres a good spot in perth to go for tuning and mods advice for this motor? not alot of places know much about them

19x8.5" and 19x9.5" Kaotiks, black centre polished lip.
Pretty sure just two mufflers, one on each pipe.

Go see Simon @ XFT mate ;)

Hey Wild ef,

Sweet Fairmont! I have one that's pretty much the same but just different colours, for the moment its got enough power for me cuz i used to drive an AU 6cyl, but i need some advice on an exhaust.

For starters, is it possible to make a 5.4L not drone? I just got my exhaust done (Single 3" Cat Back with one muffler) and it sounds good at low RPM (0-1800rpm) then between 1800 and 3000rpm it sounds like a 4cyl with one of huge tips on it. Then after 3000rpm up to 5000rpm it sounds pretty sweet.

I have herd you can get rid of the droning by putting a resonator in the system but i have my doubts. Wondering if you guys can give me a bit of advice on this before i go spend the money?

Cheers,

yeah mate ive only just bought then car so ill be heading down the exhaust track in a month or so.
mine at the moment is just the factory exhaust with the rear muffler replaced with a hotdog then splitting into twin pipes for the last half meter, pretty quiet but doesnt drone. always sounds like a v8 though :p

a single 3 inch will always drone alot more than a full twin system, twin 2.5 inch pipes are what seems to suit this engine and the boss motors.
twins give an awesome note aswell

putting a resonator should get rid of your drone it will quiet the note down aswell.
maybe try that first as it will only cost $200 or so, then maybe try some extractors,
pacemaker or difillipo extractors would be the go.

Yep 3" single systems always drone like a pig.
Try a resonator, if not doe it properly and put a twin system on it.
All V8's should have twin systems, unless of course the exhaust startes by coming off a dirty big single turbo ;)

ok update.
as mentioned in other threads my motors always been fairly noisy, could a blocked drivers side cat converter possibly make a real bad noise? and sound like the right side of the motor?

wishing again ha

Hi Mate,

Once on my AU 6 Pack the honeycomb inside the Catalytic Converter dislodged from the metal casing on the outside. It made a rattling/grinding noise, like your suggesting, at idle and at low RPM and then when i gave it s**t it would stop. Im not sure if this is your problem but it might be worth checking out, if you can send me an audio file of it i would be able to tell you if its one of your cats. Or you can jack the car up and unbolt the cat from the manifold undo a couple of the rubbers so you got some free play and shake the hell out of it to see if thats where the sounds coming from, that's if they arent bloody welded on.

I wouldnt imagin there are many moving parts near the bottom end rear drivers side apart from the crank and the conrods but the crank is in the centre obviously.

Hope this Helps :)
