Hi guys,
First time posting here and I just have a couple of questions. I have a BA XR8 which is my pride and joy. When I bought it it already had brakes, suspension, air cleaner and exhaust upgrades. I just have had my car serviced and my mechanic thinks I have a valve problem. He has determined this by the sound the engine is making - although to be honest I'm struggling to hear exactly what sound he's talking about... To do a valve repair is that an engine out job? He thinks it isn't, but I've read that it probably is? Would it be worthwhile to get the heads decked to increase compression while it's being worked on? I was thinking of 10.5:1. Would that still work with 95 premium? Ive also read that these engines had a problem with the timing chain tensioners? Apparently they're made of plastic and people replace them with a metal one instead. Is this something I should be looking at as well? Thanks for any input guys as I admit, I don't know that much about these engines. Russ |

In my opinion if its driving fine to you then leave it alone.
You dont need to take out the engine for valve work. Tensioners can be a problem on XR8s but i think they were revised on mk2 on. Not 100 percent on that.
