There is no light on the dash. And to get the computer checked it means i have to get it towed a long way to just check it and i don't trust my local ford d.ealer

Yeah that sounds alright. How would you want to go about checking it out?

I'd need your car, my laptop and OBD2 scanner.
From that I can get a list of any/all error codes the ECU is spitting out - if any. If you want PM me your address/number, I'm pretty free all day Saturday.

You dont trust your FORD FALCON to a FORD dealer to diagnose your car eh? Keep towin sunshine.....into the sunset.

There are plenty of auto specialists in any city who have a LOT more experience in troubleshooting than your average Ford dealer. Take it to the guys who build performance cars for a living.
I lost a Windsor at 190,000km. Full rebuild needed costing nearly $5000. Reason: Coffey Ford 'servicing' car for previous company owner. One minor issue- they weren't changing the oil.... Ford dealers? NEVER again. Mike

If you `lost` a windsor at 190k then the people who own and drive said windsor are responsible for its failure. A good Ford Dealer cant naff the engine, its silly irresponsible owners wanting something for nothing. As for `performance` workshops, I`m yet to see any of them forking out for flogged out diffs, gearboxes bushes, halfshafts, electrical failures, mods causing`warranty issues`. Stick it up youre a*** mate and pay for it yourself. Then you`ll think twice about your `warranty`. Ford builds a wicked car we love to drive and own. Do it properly. Look after it.Unfortuneately that isnt the case,is it.

I'm not sure what the unprovoked flame was for, but if it makes you feel better...
I serviced my car religiously from the day I purchased it with the view of maximising it's longevity. Correct tuning on a dyno, high quality oil and filter changes every 5000km etc.etc. I had no idea that the car had been neglected by the Ford dealer during it's previous life as a MD's personal car for a large company. The engine builders showed me the evidence with worn main and cam bearings and extremely black engine internals. The oil had NOT been changed despite what I have seen stamped by the dealer in the car's serice manual. They simply didn't do what the customer had paid for. Hence my reluctance to trust my car to a Ford dealer. Then there was the time a power loss issue was diagnosed as a faulty (read: expensive) MAF. I solved the problem with a $20 fuel filter. As for being a 'silly and irresponsible' owner, my Ghia now has 365,000km on it, running original alternator, LSD, rear brake rotors and many other components. I know how to treat a car right, so I'm not sure what you are trying to imply? BTW, I paid the $5000 engine repair bill out of my own pocket... Mike

Thanks data_mine, ill pm you a bit later and see how you are.
As for the other guys i have had lots of trouble with my ford some of it would be hard driving but i thought thats why you buy an xr8. I didn't spend that money to drive it like a pansy. I have taken it to ford and they are not mechanics just parts changers so i don't want to waste my time with them again. |

MMM. Yes I must have had a bad day, but Ive been a Mechanic all over WA and Victoria for over 15 years 10 of them with Ford dealers and the majority of our work isnt `parts fitting`. Maybye the lesson is that not all Ford dealers are the same, but neither are the owners. I`m sorry you had a bad experience but I wanted to stand up for good service departments (one of which I work bloody hard for) which get knocked alot, and have to sort out a helluva lot of owner caused dramas. . P.S. I wont have a few too many stubbies and post that sort of rubbish. Sorry bout that kids.
