hey guys thaught i would try this site because im having so much trouble with my ba xr8, the problem is 9/10 times i try to start it she coffs and splutters sometimes back fires under the bonnet, now i changed the 02 sensors, fuel pump, fuel filter,injectors, coilpacks,new irridium spark plugs the old ones were a tiny bit oily but looks like they wernt changed for a while, ive had it in at ford ( dumb idea ) they said my head gaskets are blown but there dumbasses so i wont beleive that at all, they also reacon i have low compression in cylinder 4 and 6, any help would be great

has it been flash tuned? Do a compression check.

nah it hasnt had a flash tune its standard all i have done is throttle body spacer, k&n filter underdrives,heavy duty clutch ,break upgrade and diff gears, could it be burnt valves?

could be, but I wouldnt think so on a BA, did it just happen since u fitted the throttle body spacer? it may need a flash tune for that, I'm not sure. I'd still do a compression test and start there.

nah it happened months after i did all this just randomly, im not at home to do a compression test im away at work, ford already did one and found 4 and 6 low

Well if it has low compression, there's gotta be a reason, so it's leaking somewhere in the cylinder, gotta be rings or headgasket or valves, I would almost tend to agree with Ford that it could be a blown headgasket.

hopefully it is a head gasket or the heads because i just baught a set of new ones, to check the rings ya just do a compression test then add a couple drops of oil into the cylinder dont you?

pull the heads off and have a look but try the oil thing first
or failing that take it up to bpt for a tune and see if that can fix the prob coz it doesnt happen all the time and you arnt losing coolant or oil
