While the Clevo was losing the C4,and getting a new cam (Cr 21666 the devils #) Decided to toss the Pacemakers, sick of the collectors draging their guts all over the place.
Went for a set of triwys,up nice and high, anyway, after getting rid of the collector flanges, and hooking the new tractors up to the split systen 2 1/2" with two Redback muffelers, went for a spin, and it tends to sound a "Bit f@rt" as my grease monkey said. Must admit, the pacemakers had a deeper sound, but that was with a gas cam,so it ain't apples with apples. What do you learned souls know about "The balance Pipe" Remembering this car is a weekender,I p****d the C4 off and put a 4 speed in so I could have a better play with the revs It's only really "f@rt" in the top end of the primaries, but when you launch it with WOT,once the smoke clears it sounds ok to me... vik...over to you guys...

A balanc pipe may help, but I prefer the X style cross over pipe on my exhausts, they seem to work well. I am not sure if it will help the "f@rt" sounds though.
Vik.. I see you have finally found FordMods, did you finally get banned for life from the other Ford DUnder site? |

The balance pipe will give it a different note and quieten it down. An X pipe goes one step further and makes it even quieter but alters the torque band in a different manner.
I've never found the need for an X pipe yet. I've been running a H pipe for 6 years.

Will it (the H pipe)change the idle sound much, cos I'm happy with that, the higher up f@rt could go though...
vik...the new cam has only done 30kms...

When I had my EF XR8 I had a x pipe put on, it made it heaps more torquey down low, but it seemed to lose up high.
Where as when I still had my 351 it improved the throttle response right thru the rev range. It was a highly modified engine granted, but it really livened things up. On it I tried: twin 3", then twin 3" with H pipe, and last twin 3" with X pipe, all of these were with only one magnaflow muffler each side. I was using pacemaker extractors with this system and it didn't sound "f@rt" at all. I also had the problem of the collectors scraping on just about evertyhing. Vik - good to hear that you have fitted the manual. Do you find it more fun to drive now? |

It only sounds f@rt since I fitted the tri jobbies...
And yes,OMFG...What a new car with the 4 speed unfcukenbeebeved what a difference a stick in the floor and a extra pedal makes vik...to own a GT when they came out...would have been better than sex

vik...the new cam has only done 30kms... It'll make it sound deeper and remove f@rt. Leave the f@rt to the 4cyls.

Also heard you should use the same size pipe in the H as what your existing zorst is,fact of fiction??? And is there any spot your sposed to do it,the crossover that is,just past where the tractors finish or what ever vik...was gunna get the local profux to do it

I switched from a 2 1/2" H-pipe to a 2 1/2" X-pipe. The difference?.........None.
You need to get the balance tube (H or X) as close as possible to the engine. Obviously an X-pipe is harder to get close to the engine which may be why it made no difference on my car. Pete. |

Vik any good exhaust fitted will have a pretty good idea where it should go. They should be able to get it within close proximity to the correct position.

I had a "H" pipe on my ute then changed to the "X" pipe. With the "H" the car had a very clappy sound at the higher RPM's. Once I put the "X" pipe in it smoothened out the sound right through the rev range. The other problem with the "H" pipe is that it cause turbulance in the exhaust where it joins. There are formulars on how long to make the "X" pipe in where it joins together depending on the motor. You look at the top V8's they all run "X" pipes.
Cheers Steve

The guy who made up my X-pipe told me he used some sort of fomula to get it in the right spot and the right actual length - I didn't believe him but now it looks as though he may not have been talking s**t like I thought.
The X pipe is supposed to be better as it has a vacuum type of effect on the exhaust leaving each bank. |

it flows through better as it hasn't got a 90 Deg bend to negotiate like on the "H" pipe

Looks like this aint a job for profux then
Better take it to Exhaust Technologies, some one who knows what they are doing Must say the "X" factor looks like it would flow better, thanks for the happy snap... vik...
