Hey guys,

My battery in the XR was forever going flat. I thought it was cos i only drove it on weekends, and maybe the battery was on its way out.

So I got a new battery for it. Left it with the mechanic... 4 hours after fitting the new battery, it was flat again. My mechanic charged it up... 4 hours later it was flat..

He did some investigations, and discovered that something on the same cicuit as the hazzard fuse is draining the battery.
Remove the fuse while its parked - battery is fine.

OK, so I have worked out that my quiktrtack is somehow hooked into this cicuit (it doesnt work when the fuse is out)... and I have also worked out, I need this fuse in, to get the battery voltage meter to work. (so I am guessing the alternator isnt charging when this is not in)

So I was driving with the fuse in, and when parked - removed the fuse.

Any idea's on what could be the cause.

I am thinking about pissing off the quiktrak and getting carcom to see if its the alarm thats causing the problem... has anyone else got any suggestions before I waste another $2500 on alarm systems.

Have you measured the voltage at the battery, and alt when its running?

A pretty big short. Even leaving my parkers on all day wasn't enough to flatten the battery.

I'll check my diagram,s see if there's anything else that's supposed to be on that circuit.

The problem with that is, that its hidden in the car (they moved it when I found the location), and if the backup battery on the quicktrack drains, it immobilises the car.

ta.

I left my interior light on once, and it was almost flat 2 days later (was turning over, but not enough to start)

Maybe I should take it back to sydney where I know and trust people to look into it.
Probably will get ripped off if I go anywhere here to get it looked at.

This has been happening for some time? I suggest disconecting things one at a time..I'd start with q/transe first..
Another way is to run ammeter over each circuit and check load..There MUST be quite a bit of load and easily checked..Did this start when thermo fans/ relays were fitted? Thats another area I'd check.I had issues with 5 pin relay once not quite wired correctly...
There MAY have to be a diode fitted in system? Like power could be back feeding into air con magnetic clutch and flattening your battery?? Simple to correct but pita to find!!!
Good luck Kelli....

This has been happening for maybe 3 or 4 months. Thermo fans were fitted over 2 years ago.

The only thing I have done to the car in that time is..

New Diff
New Clutch
Exhaust manifold gasket
New Siren for alarm

It was happening before the siren in the alarm was replaced though.

With key off ..Check fuses and run multymeter across them.Or while putting fuse back in check how much load [spark] there is? Should almost be non...Check solonoid on starter motor and cable to it , it maybe rubbing on something? Disconnect alarm, etc over night, slowly diagnose...

Yes that can do it also...Maybe done up too tight and broken insulation?
What I was saying with fuses ..With everything turned off check load on fuses by pulling them if there is geat ampount of spark putting them back..Thats the circuit thats faulty..I would say its a high load wire or it would have burnt out! like alternator or starter motor...
While checking these main wires ??? It may pay to disconnect battery or you could end up with bad flash and fire...Be carefull...

I reckon that if you spent $2500 on an alarm system. Take it back the the ppl that installed it. Tell them its wrong and to fix it.

for that much money, no one wants to be inconvinienced that much.

Must try and diagnose first...
