Thanks fellas, thats a big lump for 287 cubes, certainly looks like it, the sticker that is, no wonder i love this site.
So how rare would this be? Obviously this an auto tranny? T-86 is a auto tranny? or what would fit behind it, i got a turbo 350 in the shed, god knows how i would get a a daptor plate for it |

If it is a AMC I woulnt even bother with it, how many modified AMC engines have you seen, plus the fact we still are unsure WTF this is.

Looks like an AMC to me. Biggest Y-block was 312 in the T-bird. Y-blocks have 2 bolt rocker covers but have funny stacked inlet ports.

So were AMC Y blocks? been reasearching, and it looks like something out of a Stdebaker, Ambassador maybe, they were built from 63-66in 287, from what i have read

They were basically put behind big Yank tanks.... in short words... they weight a f**k and produce little power... also very bad on fuel.. i wouldnt bother

I think the Rambler Matador ( 4 dr sedan) from about 65-66 had a 287 in it,

The Rambler Matador also had a 360ci in it, no not a dodge/hemi 360 a GM 360

The guy brought it over with him from Canada. It was a 76 model 2 door coupe. The windscreen wiper arms were under the lip at the rear of the bonnet. It was white with a black vinyl roof. It was very long like a Mustang Mack 1 or 2.

Well just got an email back from the WA rambler club, it is a AMC 287, he cant sell a complete runner for 300, he has been dismantling it, and putting the peices in a bin at his work!!! so there is no demand for these, if i bore it another quarter inch, it will be a 327. I will pour some oil in the cyls, put it on a palette and store it, maybe it might be worth something when my kids are grown up in 20 yrs time lol.
