For all you high performance engine builders out there..!!

Whats the best combination of parts i would go for to extract as much power possible out of an el xr8 302 engine for around $5000?

Only for the top end of the engine though, as the bottom end will get rebuilt & stroked later down the track..

Yep, the Trickflow kit is a deffinate plan 'b'. Ie, if i cant find anything better, then i will buy that kit without a doubt. I just wana know if theres an alternative thats worth going with with instead of the TF kit, ie, if i can obtain a little for power etc..

You can always do better.. AFR heads will be better, you could always get a lumpier cam but that would mean notching pistons probably. Could also get Trickflow R series intake, it's endless for the windsors. You have to set your budget and your goal, then go from there.

Best part under $5k to get the most power

Nitrous kit.

Use the rest of the money for the repairs.

Lol, yeah well put...

Spose you could hunt down some 2nd hand GT40 heads from AU... 2nd hand GT40 upper/lower.. but even then i'm not sure if $5k leaves much change. Spose std MAF and TB wouldnt be much good on that combo either...

You able to do this stuff yourself?

Replace them heads and good inlet AFR or the TFS combination..Then maf etc latter...Cam when heads are off 2030 1.6 rockers or 2031 with 1.72 rockers...Should be under $5k just...Get maf Pro-m latter from Mr Landau ...
Heads and inlet is the BIGGEST bottle neck...

Do the GT40 heads become available often on the 2nd hand market?

What sort of price do they fetch?

Around about a grand or a little bit over.. Call Herrod Motorsport as they usually have some left over from AUs they have had converted to AFR.

Would they be considered a worthwhile investment at that sort of price (ie, bang for buck).

What sort of power celing do they have after some generous port work? Can they reach over 200rwkw with cam, rollers and exh ?

Kell was reaching near that power figure with just E7s (albeit ported).. GT40Ps are said to be the best bang for buck around here. Decent cam, intake, rollers etc and you'll be laughing.

You can get better gear than the Trickflow kit but you would soon blow your $5k budget.
Pro-topline 180's or AFR 185's will cost you $3000, the manifold another $1000, then you need headstuds, rollerrockers, pushrods, cam, timing chain set and gaskets to finish it. The Trickflow kit comes with all that and alloy rocker covers. I seriously don't think you will beat the power it makes for the price.
