It isn't just the exhaust used that makes the different sounds, it is like XR8Chic said, the worked engine makes the better sound, different firing order, port size etc also makes the different exhaust noises as well.

Mr Damage, different firing order?

Too true; my car doesnt sound stock when idling, altho it sure as hell is.
If i ever change my setupd id want twin pipes exiting each side of the rear bumper; cant do it so wont do it at all - save my money.
Sounds nice for a stock grand daddy car anywho! :P

speaking of this and not to get side tracked, but, and the wollongong guys should know, theres a 5.0l dunnydore going around(YWI5H), and it has a dump pipe rigth off the last muffler is it legal?

also does the same apply to the V8's regarding high flow cats, as with the I6 debate, are they better?

From my understanding in all states, the exhaust outlet must be past the rear bumper for sedans.

The V8 cats are quite restrictive IMO (well upto AUs anyway), far more than the I6's so they should be changed ASAP I think.

Im trying to make up the loudest possbile system for my 5l windor just for cruises to parties and around the place on w/e instead of the reguilar system.

Keeping the cats on coz of fines etc, but the rest dopesnt bother me.
I was thinkin runnin a pipe off each cat, dumping near the diff.

Will this sound any good and what size pipe for each side?

Dont knwo the exacts of exhausts and that but will straight thru pipes drone and s**t or just scream?

Just get a switchable y junction put into each pipe after the cat if you must have cats; that way you can scream around then at the pull of a lever go back to the zorst and sound more normal/legal.
Mikgan has done this to his, and ill tell u now i never heard such a thing, n did you say loud?
My ears were ringing for hours!
Sounds better than v8 supercar too, raw v8.

Thats an awesome idea. like the old hot rod style with the blocking plates.

Does any1 know if this would be illegal or if if the cops would fuss over it while it was in the normal position? they couldnt do a thing could they?

Any decent shop could set this up for a modest price u think?

It would no doubt be illegal to drive around with it opened up, but youd obviously close it if you got cops round ya or going thru a booze bus - it wouldnt be too expensive to have it made up as its very simple idea.

Well I am not saying supercar Windsors are different firing order to factory 5.0L's, but 302W and other V8s have a different firing order, it was a general reason for different sounds.
