Hey guys..
I was going to get my unichip installed today at autotech but have cancelled my booking until a later date. It was recommended to me that i work the engine before getting the unichip instead of being the other way around.. Good point it was too! I didnt think of how much extra it would end up costing me after having to re-program the chip after each and every modification.. Anyways, getting to the point.. Im after a good set of heads for my EL XR8. Also, if i can get a package including heads, intake, cam and the rest of the mambo, then i'll be happy By the way, my xr8 is only the 'series 1' with the E7 heads.. |

Wise choice. The EEC can take a lot of punishment till it needs a little bit of tweaking..
If you want a whole package, Trickflow do one that you can import (a lot cheaper importing with the current dollar). There are better setups, but this is pretty cheap and you'll be doing very well in the end with a bigger MAF, TB, injectors and fuel pump. http://www.trickflow.com/product/engine ... nekits.asp

Yeah i was looking at the different trickflow packages on the net last night, but only 350~ish hp for their top kit? How much do those kits usually go for? In au dollars.. Cos it doesnt mention prices on their site & i have international call barring on my house phone!
I was also thinking maybe just buying some good heads and getting a custom grind cam to match. If i was to go about it that way, what heads would you recommend? And where might i be able to pick them up from? Cheers. |

Probably the best heads you can get here are the AFRs. They come CNC ported from factory so they don't need to be touched. To import that kit including shipping and everything is about $4k at the moment, depending on the exchange rates.

Where would i be able to pick up a pair of AFR heads from? Do they have a website or anything?
4k isnt too bad for the trickflow kit i suppose.. Cheers. |

Consider that the AFR's will cost you about $3000 just for the heads alone!
They are great heads though.

That kit costs about $4795 in aussie dollars. We don't carry the full kit only the individual components. If you are serious I can see how close to that price I can get. im thinking around $4000 and maybe get the heads ported and polished and a little bit more done (slight mods)

I rang High Performance World this arvo asking for his recommendations on which heads to use and why. He recommended the AFR's also.
I was quoted $2800 for the AFR heads with everything needed for it to be a bolt on application, in comparison to the TrickFlow which are a tad over $2300.. Even though the trickflows are cheaper, they arent CNC ported. So to bring the TrickFlows up to AFR standards, the TrickFlows will end up costing at least as much as the AFR's anyway. Is this true? |

Porting the trickflows will be even better depending who does it..I'd recomend Benny Gatt supperflow heads he has built some tuff drag Fords ...
TFS heads are good out of the box though.Consider Hi ports or R series especially with stroker???Alittle over the tiop but where do you stop ??? 185 AFR heads need valve notch's in piston...Whatever set of heads make sure you order there premier spring kit.Roller cams need top springs.... Heads are only the part of it, inlet and maf then throttle body too...

Thanks for that. At the moment, it will cost about $3800 to have the kit shipped over and everything. However, if HPW can get the whole kit close to $4k then that is a goer, especially seeing that you will get warranty also.

Yeah a stroker would be awesome, but wouldnt that cost a s**t load more? Also, if its a daily driver, would it be a bad idea to stoke it? ..lol.. Heads are only the part of it, inlet and maf then throttle body too... So only the AFR's need notches in the pistons and the TrickFlows dont? If thats the case, then ill stick with the TrickFlows. Yeah once i get the appropriate heads, i will look around for an inlet manifold and the rest.. Also, one more question.. Ive already got Tri-Y pacemakers on my E7 heads at the moment, will they still fit on the TrickFlows? Cheers |

YES they'll fit.One advantage of using TFS is you can use the whole induction system from cam to inlet..
The 165 cc AFR's will fit without notching.. Things to consider as things can get confusing... Yes TFS heads bolt on but need guide plates and hardened pushrods.. That MAY put you off but the valve assembly is much stronger with stud mount heads... The TFS heads are have twised wedge and deeper chambers so the 2.02 inlet valve is o/k but still pays to check. With E303 cam theyre o/k... Another good flowing combo is the Holley Systemax BUT the inlet cannot be turned around like Fords.Edelbrock, TFS..So inlet though fits it faces towards drivers side..Edelbrock have heads and inlet packages as well www.vpw.com.au sell Edelbrock.. Vic www.highperformanceworld.com.au AFR...TFS Parra nsw These guys do the work fitting etc and sell products like tfs..Talk to them.... http://www.austrackmotorsport.com.au/products.html ..NSW From U.S these guys own TFS.. http://store.summitracing.com/default.a ... s&x=10&y=4 http://store.summitracing.com/default.a ... s&x=10&y=4

Terry - the guy that built my engine had to notch his pistons when he put in AFR 156's in his AU (Black AU XR8 - it was in Performance Ford story about fitting Alloy heads)
When I got the AFR185's fitted to my lil baby, the notches on the pistons were bigger than the ones he had to do on his car. Oh - and everyone was telling me that I would get the heads on for under $3200. It ended up costing just on $4000 including all the gaskets, head bolts, new spark plugs (they take different ones to normal ford ones) etc etc etc...
