Yes but you'll need a taller bonnet.

it may fit , but then you will have troubles with the RTA & legality of the car, the max displacement increase in NSW is calculated by GVMx 1.32 or so don't quote me on that figure as it may have changed. this will give you the max cc of an engine to be fitted "without " brake, chassis and driveline modifications and an engineer certificate must be obtained.

you might have to modify the shock towers, upgrade your suspension, heavy duty sway bar, install torsion bars, re-enforced your sub-frame, bigger brakes.
those big blocks are heavy & tent to pull you towards the kerb if you have a lead foot. the amount of torque they produce is incredible. you end up with a twisted frame if you don't take care of the above first.

if you do reinforce it,
DON'T SEAM WELD IT! thats a lesson I learned with my XE, if a weld cracks, it just follows the weld as a weak point if you stitch it , you may still crack a weld but it will stop at the beginning of the next run, it also allows a little more flex when hitting bumps

Sure ?? What qualifications do you have to come up with that? If thats the case I'm in serious trouble then....

Yes you are Graeme. Going by the calculations set by the RTA in NSW, i cn legally run something like 480cubes, but 427 will be enough for me for now, and besides, my 427 is a small block, not a big block

R/H rear door was hitting the wheel arch, boot lid has larger gap on L/H side etc.. thats how my XE finnished up... at the wreckers

Brett To the uninitiated your new engine is still a 351. That's the beauty of strokers. Dude that engine you wan't is the ford motorsport big block crate engine. You have any idea how much that thing costs? 25k or there abouts. And you still need an induction system for it (it comes with a carby manifold but no carby). Your better off raiding a truck wrecker for a late model injected big block from one of the bigger F trucks as they still ran 429's and 460's till recently (you might even find a donk that is newer than your car). Give that thing a bit of a tickle and 500hp would be in the bag. Plus cause its already injected you will have less hassels with the RTA. Still hassels but less than what you would have in trying to convert a carby engine to EFI. Remember your car is post ADR 27A (I think that's mandatory unleaded days) and that is reall hard for you. Remember you can't go backward with emissions. Only side step or forwards. |

Actually the 514 engine can be had for around 13k from Raceparts in QLD.
It is actually cheaper than the 392W Z304-headed crate engine from the same Ford racing catalog. Having said that...I'd still have the 392, write 302 on it, stick in and never tell the authorities! Pete. |
