Sheesh!!! Looks nasty!! Like someone else said, at least you get the opportunity to build a bigger one!!
Although I personally wouldn't stick with a standard stroke short, too much to be gained by bigger cubes for not much money, if you're already paying for a new crank/rods etc. |

yeah, but if im gona stroke id wana do it properly and that means using a good block like a Dart, that way i can supercharge it and give it sum happy gas later on....maybe something ill look at a little bit later on......not the best plans for a uni student on a limited budget.........for not the new 302 will be the best option i think...

Personally, I would buy another secondhand block, and a Sydney Speed Stroker kit. Cheap and nasty, still better than stock items, and cheap as chips.
Will be a little stronger than your standard crate short, for the same money, and it will have some resale value later on when you get serious. |

You can see the thin cast near the #1 main as Walker said. You weren't short of oil pressure were you? Otherwise thats a time bomb ticking!

im pretty sure oil pressure was low wen the oil was spraying on the road....i duno how many ks were on it coz apparently the motors been rebuilt in the last few years...however wen people are selling a car "rebuilt" usually means a new manifo;d gasket, or a bottle of Stop Smoke......but there was no signs of the thing going...even Terry at BPT was surprised wen i told him..

Hey veeate,
Saw your car at BPT t'other day. Bad luck about the engine. That sort of damage can be caused by a few things... If you had coolant leakage probs then it's likely you were getting coolant in your cylinders over a period of time which of course doesn't compress very well. The constant hydraulicing(for want of a better word) eventually causes this to happen. Another common one is the incorrect routing of the ignition leads. With such high energy ignition, when you have two ignition leads next to each other than are 90 degrees apart in the firing order the energy transfer can cause a spark to be introduced in this adjacent leads cylinder...obviously 90degrees ignition advance is a little hard for an engine to take especially a late 5.0 block(these are 25lb lighter in the casting than early 289/302 blocks). Ive seen a few F-series 5.0's suffer exactly this, more due to lack of cleaning and positively rooted ignition leads than anything else. Another cause can be an aftermarket MAF with a way out Calibration. This usually results in lean mixtures and way too much spark advance...obviously extremely dangerous. Time for crate 392/427/460 or so methinks Pete. |

i thnk its the MAF situation..ive got the factory electronics on a larger pipe, but theres no sample tube.....im gonna invest in a C&L unit for my new engine
