Can someone confirm that the four long bolts for the Cobra intake are 5/16th and 7" long with a metal thread ( UMT or a*** thread type) ?
Or are they only 6" long?

Vic AFAIK they are the exact same as the ones for the HO manifold.
You will only need longer bolts if you put in a backalite spacer.

Thread are 5/16BSW

3/8 spacer is installed, hence the need for longer bolts. The original long bolts are apparently not long enough.

They should be 5/16" UNC. Just buy some high tensile threaded rod and make your own studs for it.

Sounds like a plan Pete.

But I'm still curious about the original long bolts for the Explorer / Cobra. Wouldn't other people fitting 3/8" phenolic spacers have encountered the same problem with the original bolts being too short and needed longer 7" bolts?

The spacer should come with longer bolts.
I had do the stud trick back in the early '90's with my Cobra intake on the 351. I bought the kit brand new from Ford motorsport and it didn't come with the centre two bolts. When I enquired about the missing bolts I was told that none of them come with those bolts and of course std HO bolts are too short. Pretty f**k up really.

Well that matches up with my situation, I sourced a Cobra intake a while back and the 3/8" spacer was thrown in - but with no bolts. Now I have found that two longer 7" bolts are required so I am going to do as you suggested and ring a bolt shop tomorrow and get them to custom make me a couple of 7" bolts to fix the problem.

The Cobra centre bolts are longer than H.O bolts...

Dropped a pair of high tensile, 5/16th, UNC, 7" bolts into the upper and it was a perfect fit, thanks guys. They cost $2.50 each from Dandy Bolts down here in Melbourne in case anyone gets into a similar situation and needs to know a place to source them.
