Hi fella's,

Well i thought i would start a thread here in regards to my boosted 351 build which is also in the garage section.

But at the moment, I've been having thoughts to possibly stroke it to a 408w.
I will be buying new rods, so why not buy a new crank as well and get the extra stroke.
But the 351 will rev harder and be easier and cheaper to build from my point of view. ( won't have to clearance block, etc ).

So I'll put it out to the Fordmods community!

Boosted 351w or 408w?

Revability is NOT an issue with turbo motors.. Look at the XR6T...
HOWEVER !! Strength is..
Keep good rod angles at the power levels these engines can make
it comes into play more so..
YEP !! Quality rods and pistons will be fine...
Bigger engine helps with spool and larger turbo...

Mate ive stroked my clevo to a 393, really wanted to stroke it to 409 but like EBXR8380 said Rod angles need to be considered....so i opted on the side of courtion and went with the smaller stroke for reliability coz she will be turning upto 7500 rpm, i would suspect your windsor will or could turn even more depending on what your doing to her..If your going to be running big boost and turning it fast ide be getting the Block preped regardless ..... of the stroke... its not a cheap exercize but its certainly worth the piece of mind.... good luck with what ever you decide cant beat displacement..

I thought the 393 and 408 where the same stroke? Just the 408 had a 0.030" overbore? I'm pretty sure that's correct with windsors, but not sure with clevo's?

I'll be buying SCAT rod's through summit, so I'm just wondering if I should spend a bit extra and get a 4" forged crank for the 408.

So the question is do i gamble with the rod angles and go with the 408 on boost.

Or choose a smaller stroker option!

You have an advantage with the windsor' extra deck height over a cleveland. A 393 has a 3.85 stroke and a 408 has a 4" stroke. You can also do a 418.
Do a 408 and use a turbo as well

Iam not a full bottle on the total tech side of things but my clevo is 393 with 30thou bore so i thought it must be crank or rods

Use this, for future reference.

Bore x Bore x Stroke x 0.7854 x number of cylinders.

eg, 4.030 x 4.030 x 4.000 x .7854 x 8 = 408.17.

Enjoy. 8-)

I've been sifting through the Summit website. I have come across these...

I'm not really "with it" when it comes to balancing. 351 windsors are 28oz imbalance, should i stick with that.

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SCA-4351W50/

Can anyone suggest a good rod?

cheers

Zero balanced is best but ain't nothin wrong with quality gear at 28oz. All the Scat stuff is good otherwise it's big dollar pieces like Oliver, Carillo, etc.
