thanks for the heads up there scaffy. had a sift through your build thread yesterday and found the answer. seems a bit strange because ford racing use that block with a 347 rotating assembly but either way ill be keeping away from the boss block now. thanks mate

I'll be building a stroker soonish too, just not in a ford. Not in an 8.2" deck block you can't. Of course but with after market, for $170 more you can go 8.7" and for $340 more you can go 9.2" as well, not much more when you consider the price the whole lot is going to slug you. Yes but when you are talking about 347's people are generally referring to stock 302 size blocks. And your statement is exactly why I suggest people go straight for a 9.2 or 9.5 deck blocks....spend a smidge more and get one hell of a larger engine! A 4" stroke in an 8.7 deck would result in pretty s**t rod angle too. |

Get a Dart sportmans block and 4.125 bore as you get extra cubes for nothing, all you need is a 347 stroker crank and rods and you can get pistons from SRP off the shelf for bore size 4.125. I dont know how much power you want to make but with a 363 + AFR 205cc heads + Comp Cams XFI 5.0 Stroker hydraulic roller camshaft- 236/248 @ .050", 286/300 total, .579"/.579" lift You will make 500 hp at the flywheel and if your going to use ur manuel you will see about 380+ hp at the weheels Dont know if you want that much hp but you can use your heads and cam and have a more tame setup.

Is that block set up right for 347? Is it stronger than a 302 block or is it a 302 done to 347? |

Its a 302 block essentially just with 347 crank, rods & pistons.
Is stronger than factory 302 windsor blocks but i wouldnt buy 1, dart is my choice.

I'd probably keep it relatively tame and retain my heads, but move up in the cam department. Intake will probably be looked at as well.

Id go either Trickflow track heat or R series as they flow abit more but all depends on what the rest of the combo will be.
If i end up building another as i dont find anything i dont like ill be building this engine combo and keep you in the loop of what im doing and get my engine builder to give u some advice.

After doing a bit of searching, I can't seem to find any oversized pistons to suit the Twisted Wedge heads, so i may end up having to do away with them.

That depends on where you are looking... They are out there, but you won't find them in the 'cheaper' forged brands. Only the likes of Diamond, JE and CP have what you are looking for. Just keep in mind that once you've got your Motec on, and a 347/363 bottom end together with a larger camshaft, your 170cc Trickflow heads & manifold will become the strangle point. Consider trading up to AFR or TFS 205cc heads.

I'd been looking on the JE site but found nothing. I've been thinking that as when the time comes, I'll probably be changing everything out, I may have a long motor for sale... but only time will tell.

JE/SRP will have a piston to suit those heads in any bore/stroke/comp height combo, not a problem. But if it were me, I'd ditch those short-valve TFS things and get a decent head with good flow numbers right across the chart, not just at max lift like the TFS must quote. They cant get a good flow with such a short-a*** valve! Go the AFR's or similar.
A goods set of SRP's will be easy to get, and will handle big power without having to put up with the pain in the a*** forged piston knock-knock on start up.

if i had the money to get an aftermarket block i think i would try and do a deal with someone who can do a deal on everything ....and work with you so you get exactly what you want
like fordstrokers .com ...can supply you the block , heads , and stroker kit ,and custom cam |

I don't know if they have exactly what I want. I had a quick look. I didn't see the Dart Sportsman in there. I've been looking at a few US stores and AD Performance looks like it could be the go...
Here's the link http://www.adperformance.com/index.php?main_page=index Although they can supply a balanced short block, I think I'd rather get the parts and have the engine built here by someone I can trust due to the fact that if anything goes wrong, I'm not going to be able to send it back to them in the US

What has the valve 'length' got to do with the airflow? The airflow numbers the TFS heads achieve through the entire range has nothing to do with the valve's length and everything to do with the port shape. That very same TFS head in its CNC'd 205cc version outflows the AFR 205cc head which uses a 2.08" intake valve. SRP don't do a piston for the 4.125" or larger bore in a Windsor, but JE do. Ultimately you may find you'll need a custom piston to get the comression ratio correct.
