Hey why doesnt the boss V8 respond the mods like a gen3?
I know that with a mafless edit on a gen3 there are 30-40rwkw ready to go on a bog stock car. Add an exhaust system and the car is really moving with an extra 20rwkw. The BA doesnt respond so well to mods. ???????

Lol. What are you basing this on? There is only a fraction of the number of guys playing with the boss compared to the many, many Ls1 tuners. Aussie Car Enhancements have a 3 valve - (yes, the 3 valve) doing 12.7 @ 109mph - unopened. One of the guys on AFF (Ratter) has an UNOPENED boss 290 doing 11.7 @ 116. Street legal naturally aspirated road cars with basic weight reduction for the strip times. So what was that about the modular boss motors not responding well to mods?

Fair point. You just dont hear too much about them.
Ive read a few magazines that say not much to be gained in the boss v8, go for the XR turbo

Yes - i agree with that. A shame really - there's quite a few guys getting pretty quick with unopened 220, 260 and 290 motors. I think the magazines have forgotten about the V8 with the advent of the turbo 6.

Thats impressive for the 220, I may rethink the LTD option

I think its not so much that its not mod-friendly but more that its overshadowed by the turbo motor so no one really bothers with the 8

I know I would go the 6T over the 8 if I was looking into the new ones. They are far too easy extract power from.

LOL what do you expect from a truck engine.
The three valver 5.4 was and is designed for trucks in the US, the 260/290 is basically that same engine fitted with 4.6 DOHC heads. US needs to produce a large capacity modular V8 which isn't under square like the 5.4L (stroke is larger than bore size), under square makes it easier to get high torque at low RPM compared to over square (stroke is smaller than bore size) where torque production is produced at higher RPM. From what results I have seen (and drove) from the 5.4 DOHC it has been a poor combination, it has a poor power range, relatively high rpm before decent torque is produced and then the under square side of things stop it from making high RPM torque/power with ease. (Unless you force air into it, then it becomes a totally different animal) If they were to created at least a square engine (bore and stoke the same size) to make it easier to produce more power, have a look at the Gen III/IV over square design 3.9 inch bore and 3.62 in stroke with high flow modern (for push rod) heads and intake it makes it damn easy to produce high power/torque. Does anyone know if the Chev engines still have poor torque at low RPM? This is my opinion anyway.

have a look at FFAU there are plenty of boss v8's that are running 240 - 270 rwkw with mainly bolt on mods.
come to think of it gen3's make less than the boss with equivalent mods but are a bit quicker cause of the weight.

come to think of it gen3's make less than the boss with equivalent mods but are a bit quicker cause of the weight. Gen IV LS2's (Current HSV's) can make over 300RwKw's with just MAF removal, air box intake mods, exhaust and computer edit. They can make something around 270 RWKW with just a computer edit, considering they are only 7kw higher than the Boss 290 that gives you an idea how easy it is to achieve. Capacity (6.0L) and being over square makes it a hell of a lot easier to achieve. But I think it is more important for Ford Australia to target less weight for the Falcon first, this would be better for all Falcon models.
