Hi guys I don't know if there's already a post about this so I thought I'd ask and see. Right my question is would a BA-BF BOSS290 engine, gearbox and running gear fit into a 69 XT? The firewall on the XT will be removed and reshaped as well as the inner guards. Any ideas comments or tips are always welcome.

351 FTW

Or the new boss 335

In the April issue of motor there's the new GTP Boss 351 signed by Allan moffet. It's for the 40th anniversary of his Bathurst wins. Sorry I got off topic lol

i think if your goin to the trouble of modding the firewall and inner guards almost anythings possible... put a real big block in it,460 goodness
biggest problem is running it, although i've heard people do standalone looms for b series in older applications. bellhousing/driveline issues also could be fixed using standard box and custom tailshaft but again, if using auto you need to run it which becomes a bigger problem than the engine management as i understand.

you will need to meet emissions for that motor, put in a good 351 and be done with it.

Thanks guys for the info. Originally I was gonna bore and stroke the ol 302 Windsor I have and hook it up to a top loader I bought but I know someone who's selling his wrecked BA GT for $10,000. Was gonna get it and in time rip everything out of it and put in my XT. Was gonna do everything bar the stereo so full electrics a/c u name it. I'm looking to make it a good drivable car but also strong enuf to take down the strip.

I reckon it sounds like a good idea.
You would have to adapt to a strut front end to scollop the inner shock towers for width.
RRS has the gear for this.
Wiring the motor to run would be fairly easy with an aftermarket wiring kit. Not that dear neither.
The rest of it would be custom work.
Would be excellent to see.

Yep RRS has actually made a full kit for the conversion for around $10-12k depending on the options. I like the idea of being able to drive it without paying a fortune on fuel plus having all the creature comforts. The XT was always gonna be a fully custom rebuild but this idea is growing more and more on me. Depending how hard I wanna drag it I might go a quick shift b&m auto and rebuild my 9" or stick with a 5 spd setup.

Get a Coyote crate from Ford racing complete with street rod PCM kit and alternator kit for about $7500. Better, lighter, smaller engine than the 5.4 and should fit without cutting towers.
Btw BPT just did 621rwhp with their new intercooled, whipple blower kit for the Coyote.

If there ever was a good enough reason to confine the 5.4 boss 260 to the history books as an overpriced boat anchor, this is it. I wonder how much Darren at FTG sells 260 engines and ecu wiring packages for?

Ftg are getting in a boss 290 next week and will let me know re cost. Atoll wreckers in WA have a motor and box with full loom for sale for $11,500 which I think is a wee bit steep. Regarding the coyote crate motor I'm quite intrigued by this. If it came down to it I think I might end up going with it as stock out of the crate it is more powerful and narrower than the 290. Either way I still think this is the route I'm gonna take. So when the build gets underway il be selling my worked 302 and top loader to add a lil more money to the build fund. Anyone that might be interested in it please let me know as it has a brand new edlebrock intake manifold, holley 465 cfm carby and msd coil and distributer. I'm not 100% sure what internals it has but I know it has a much bigger cam.

The last couple of Boss 290's FGT have scored all sold for 10k+. Don't know what the 260 prices are though. I'm assuming around the 6-8k mark. Bear in mind this includes the gearbox as well.

For 7.5k the coyote could be the performance bargain buy crate motor deal of the century.

i say go for it.late model muscle in early cars are the way of the future with fuel costs.years ago i took a 351 in to get a rebuild, but ended up spending 10k on it.so i say stick with it and 290 boss in a xt would be awesome.
