kenny, what have you done to yours to get that sort of power, I've seen alot of bosses between 240-260 kw, but none at 280 kw with out been rebuild with higher compression.

I'd like to know aswell, the most i've seen from a boss, without cracking it open, is 260rwkw.

cobraR heads are factory fitted, I was lucky enough to have an FPV engine fitted from the factory, along with a 6 speed manual.
The injectors are of no benefit until later stages of the project, but allow plenty of headroom when tuning.
But believe it or not, I am still running factory headers (with a bit of grinding/re-welding).
The boss 260-290 has a lot of modern improvement over the pushrod type V8, but from the factory leaves o bit to be desired!
I'm gonna get my a** kicked over this but check out the link!
P.S this testing was performed in a controlled environment, off public roads and 100% legal!!!!

Correct me if im wrong But arent all Boss 260 motors FPV built? As i beleive mine is also from there. The reason i say that is because of the Engine numbers start with FPV.... Ill take a photo of it 2morro and show you.

Most of them are, from late 2004 when the mk11 was released a few got the handbuild treatment, which consisted of ballancing, mild blueprinting (within tight tollerances) the heads were the better cobra-R straight port units and slightly longer duration camshafts (handbuilt motors only)
If you have test driven a few XR8's you will know instantly if it's a good one or not.
The majority of the 6 speed manual mk11's were basicly a GT in disguise, and with a custom tune and a few small mods done ,will make over320hp at the treads without compramise of drivability/economy.
The best indication is to check the size of the TB butterfly, 70mm is normal and 75mm is what was used on the "better" motor.

kenny - are you saying yours is a 290. do these come out running 290 software as well or still the 260 software and having an output somewhere between 260 and 290? can more info be found on this somewhere, like engine numbers or codes or something. reason i ask is my workmate has a 03 xr8 5sp which turned out a healthy 225rwkw with only cat back exhaust. has since had flash tune and some bolt ons on the intake side and is putting out closer to 240. goes veeerry hard. i wonder if he's just got a healthy 260 or if there is more to the story. i'd say that is the case but you never know. the way they get bagged you would think they'd be slow but def. not the case with his example.

apparently they are a boss 290, with the 260 tune from the limited info I got from a guy who works in a high profile ford yard in Sydney.
As for a resource for info... I am having troubles myself trying to get accurate info on factory variations, as ford just use whatever is on the production line next.
I test drove a few and something just stood out from the rest, even the exhaust note was different (stock system) and there was a much louder induction roar than most.
I was once one to knock the BA when it come to performance, but have now swallowed my words ,and learned how to wake 'em up with minimal $$$

are there any distinguishing marks on the heads. can you pop the bonnet and see if they're cobraR or normal boss 260?

maybe stock...... but to get the windsor to go much better without a realy good cheque book, the windsor is just a good "boat anchor" even this task is a little out of its league!

Excuse me but bull-s-h-i-t

My "little windsor", has more power than a stock BA-BF XR8. Approx 261 kw at the fly (201.3 rwkw), and unlike the boss which has no balls down low. I lay rubber the second i hit the gas. And it is still un opened and has cost me SFA to get it there. I leave BA-BF XR8's time and time again, doing damn well for a boat anchor if you ask me.

Your stock BOSS doesnt come close to a power curve like this - and I havnt even done my custom flash tune yet. These AFR's are off

the only probs ive come across wiv the timing chain is the timing chain tensioner. ford has since bought out a decent one instead of the s**t ones the boss' came out wit, i think u can get the better one under warranty if ur havin probs wit the old one. the s**t ones tend to make the car rattle when cold. dont no if it would cause probs when modded, maybe get the new one to be on the safe side
