The 260/290 Boss motors are not Windsors, they are "Modular" engine family.

Talk to Bluepower in Campbellfield, they are building some stupid fast BA XR8's and GT's.

Why they called Boss then? Boss originally has been the name for Windsor block with Cleveland heads...

These are the new generation Boss.

If you didn't know they were called Boss then where have you been the last 3 1/2 years?

Exactly, Ford were using the BOSS reference as a throwback the the hayday of the v8s.

Matwe you should have a reread, I never mentioned or hinted that I wasn't aware theyu were called Boss. I said I was implying was my suprise at Ford calling a non-Windsor block Boss, considering that's the name given to Windsors with Cleveland heads in the past. I don't see how these can really be termed the new generation Boss (I mean do they have any thing in common with a push rod windsor with Cleveland heads? besides having 8 cylinders in a V configuration and being produced by Ford...), there just new V8's reusing the old name... I assumed that they were Windsors due to the fact that they were named Boss, hence my suprise to find there not... But now if I thought about it, considering they have overhead cam I should of relised that!

Back in the 70's Boss was used for more than the Windsor Boss, there was also the 351C Boss and 429 Boss.

But the 302 Boss Windsor got the name first. (Unsure as 429 Boss came out in the same year)

The scary engine is the 429 Boss, hmm nice.

Some Forged rods from Manley(or possibly ARGO....they already make Turbo rods so it stands to reason they'll make a Modular rod) and some forged pistons and they're good for 800odd hp. If you want more...get the GT40 ally block which is good for more than 1500hp but needs several mods to make it work in a front engined vehicle.

Look;

A Boss 302 is a 4bolt main, steel cranked 302w bottom end with Cleveland heads.
A Boss 351 is ALL Cleveland and is in fact more powerful than the Boss 429 engine which was dog because it's cam was too small.
A Boss 429 is a 385 series engine(ie 429/460) with huge Pent roof combustion chamber heads and the aforementioned little cam.
A Boss 260 is a 5.4 DOHC modular engine with 9.5:1
A Boss 290 is a 5.4 DOHC modular engine with 10.5:1 and different cams to the 260.

Now back to the real subject!

429 Boss had hemi heads. But then again so did the cammer. But yeah back on topic The cappa blown boss ute has the stock block but with sftermarket crank, rods and pistons. They reckon that thing can see 7500rpm all day long and it punches out 750 odd hp at the wheels.

In terms of basic mods the Gen 3 is better then the boss dollar per dollar but when you start pushing serious HP then you need the iron block (read truck block) gen 3 cause the stocker can't hang together, even with the steel bore liners fitted it just falls to bits.
