It works because of the pretensioner built into the factory system. Have you seen how much travel there is in that thing. I am still using the factroy belt, and with regard to the FRPP set needing the water pump pulley machined, mine didnt, and i brought mine from Mr Landau all those years ago as well. I did have charging issues, but i contacted Romac here in syndey(when i got my new balancer) and they custom made me one, with a 60mm od.

OK, just to clear things up, here's the link for the BPT pully kits, they state the single pully EB-EL V8 'street' kit uses a shorter belt. They come with the shorter belt, I tried fitting the standard belt but it was too short for the tensioner to take up the slack safely.

I did mine with the thermo fans in, the hardest part was getting the bolts off for the crank pulley. It's also hard to get the alternator off, a rattlegun makes it easier, and something to hold the alternator pulley, like a chain type oil filter remover.

ummmm, just wondering since there is a bit of debating going on here, wouldnt you be better off to swap to a davis craig electric water pump, and then use a kit like this, cause that would completely remove the drag from your water pump???
just an idea

just an idea Yes and no. When it comes to power consumption nothing comes for free. The power you saved by removing the mechanical water pump would now be required to be supplied by the alternator to drive the electric water pump motor. There should be a saving if the electric pump is more efficient(one would hope so). Of course the underdrives are also underdriving the A/C and the power steering pump. It's possible that an underdrive set with an overdriven alternator pulley and electric water pump may be the most efficient. However there are always losses when converting energy so converting mechanical to electrical then back again to mechanical is likely going to make the electric water pump scenario lag behind. Would be interesting to test. Pete. |

Would be interesting to test. Pete. Interestingly, autospeed did a test (don't know what testing) on a craig davies electric water pump. craig davies wasn't happy with the results so they pursued legal action and the article was removed. I can take a guess what the results would have been though

Nah haven't got them on yet, still sitting in the boot - i'll wait till after exams.
They were black which isn't too bad, don't know if I want the chrome ones, may bring unwanted attention to the front of an ugly engine!!! Looking forward to see what difference they make though |

Nah, there is just one part number. Ordered the BPT ones and didn't get asked any preference so I doubt it.

That's because they come in Steel and black or Steel and black or if you prefer Steel and black. Pete. |
