I've had enough of the gearbox problems and have decided to put a C$ into my EL. Any advice on how to go about it? Do I need to chip the ECU to remove the electronic POS box or not? Also what are the best quick easy and relatively cheap performance mods for the 5.0?

5.0 mods that are cheap would be full exhaust system. Although can be over $2000 it gives the most kw for $$ value.
Then next would be a cam.
After that do MAF, TB and heads.
Set of underdrive pulleys wouldnt go astray either.

Simon from Allfast torque converters can help you with the C4 install.
However, the fact that you've hardly done anything to your engine means that you may as well stick with your BTR auto. If you are having problems with yours and it's been rebuilt it's time to change gearbox builders. Simon also has the contact details of a BTR trans specialist.

Waiting for the "throw a manual in it" crowd, seems there cannot be an auto related thread without them lol, but if you have no plans for major engine mods I guess that is an option (although V8 5 speeds are sometimes hard to find).

The BTR box will hold up to a huge amount of punishment if fitted with a decent cooler. It is also a good idea to get an adjustable S5 solenoid or even an electronic shift kit as that also cuts down on trans temp. Going back to a 3 speed with no overdrive is obviosuly going to have a big effect on fuel economy, not to mention make the car difficult to sell later on (unless you put the 4 speed back in).

^^Exactly what he said^^

As for mods, there isn't much you can do to them cheaply for extra power like the I6's. Extractors if you don't have some make a good difference. MAF/TB will make bit of power, maybe 5 rwkw, but nothing special, the manifold and heads are the biggest restrictions.

Underdrive pullies will free up some power, but a few people with the BPT kits fitted have had charging and cooling troubles. US kits will not fit the aussie water pump without some machining.
