Hello,
I have an EB XR8 which i'm looking to finally do some engine upgrades to. I currently have a number of parts I want to put in including a set of GT40P heads with yella terra roller rockers 1.72 (I believe 1.72 would need to double check) but I have some questions: What is an E303 cam like? I don't want a massive cam but something more suitable for street performance and something not too hefty on the wallet - looking at getting it from summit racing (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FMS-M-6250-E303/). Will the E303 go fine with the roller rockers? Will I have any clearance issues between the pistons and valves? Will I need to get a chip and tuned? What spark plugs should I be putting in? Any recommendations? What spark plug leads would be good too? Where do people generally buy spark plugs / leads from? In terms of the engine work, I'll most likely be getting Crescent Motors to do all the installation as I haven't ever worked much on the v8 and don't have the time to do it over several weeks or months. Thank you in advance! All help and direction is appreciated very much |

E303 is a very dated cam now. I'd go for something on a wider lobe separation around 114°, intake duration @ 050 around 218°. I run NGK iridium plugs to suit AU3 XR8 in GT40P heads, gapped to 0.9-1.0mm. Run a quality spiral wound plug lead, Summit Racing have a house brand available

IMO F303 is too big especially with 1.7 rockers. Forget it if the car runs an auto with stock converter. GT40P heads don't flow much better above 520 thou, so any lift in XS of this is somewhat pointless.

Thanks for all your help! I think I'm slowly getting my head around what all the specs on the camshafts mean. The vehicle has a manual transmission. I'm trying to be a bit cheap and not spend too much on a camshaft, would this TFS one be better than the E303?
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/TFS-51403001/ It has slightly higher intake and exhaust durations and the lobe separation is 112. |

Remember the specs are with the stock 1.6 ratio rockers, and your using 1.7's. It will add about 30 thou to the lift and make the cam behave like a slightly bigger cam because duration will also increase slightly. P/V needs checking. It will be a good match for GT40P heads. Make sure the induction and fuel systems are matched ie. MAF >= 73mm, Explorer/Cobra intake as a minimum, 65-70mm TB, 24lb injectors, and a chip with a PROPER tune on it

Valve springs need replacing too..
GTP heads had crap valve springs... Keep in mind the valve isn't at peak lift for long.. Smaller port heads breath better with a little duration...
